Probably not - it\'s not anti-social until you kill someone.
Anyone actually heard of a car being crushed for no road tax?
As regards the original thread, sounds too good to be true - if this removes some of the baseball hatted pink fluffy dice who can\'t drive at less than 120 decibels I\'m for it.

Is this proposal only for offences in which the car is involved?
Otherwise why pick on cars as opposed to computers, televisions, stereos, DVDs etc.?

"Police in Craven are warning they will seize vehicles as a means of tackling anti-social behaviour"
Re-aranging that sentence we get:
Police in vehicles are warning they will seize caravans as a means of tackling anti-social behaviour
Some would say "about time too!!":)

That's what the link says.

Anyone actually heard of a car being crushed for no road tax?
Wasn't there a case of a Roller in Leeds that was going to be crushed due to no tax and being unable to contact the owner? Did that actually happen, or did they see sense? (For starters, they could have sold it on for more than the scrap value!)

I doubt that the police have the power to sieze a car from anybody other than the owner. If it is leased or subject to an HP agreement I would not have thought that siezure would be legal. What do "our learned friends" think? Do you recall "3 strikes and you're out" for habitual criminals?

AS
S 59 Police Reform Act, 2002 and Police (Retention and Disposal of M Vehicles) Regs 2002
.....may order THE PERSON DRIVING the vehicle to stop...and MAY SEIZE AND REMOVE IT...
Matters not who the owner is.

"Anyone actually heard of a car being crushed for no road tax?"
DVLA Operation Cubbitt (gedditt) happend in my area a few weeks ago. Couple of clients got their cars seized, reported for for motoroing offences. Last I heard around 3/4 of the cars remain unclaimed, unless they are worth something like £1500.00 they will get scrapped. Very popular with tax paying citizens.
Local Police seized a car belonging to another client under PRA
2002. Don't know how popular it is (certainly wasn't with the driver's mther !), but is reputed that Mr Blunkett personally this bit of legistlation 'cos he'd had a bellyfull of his voters moaning at him...I understand that the local constabulary have set upa forcewide database to identify cars and drivers that may "offend" in different areas of their patch...

Anyone actually heard of a car being crushed for no road tax?
Couple of years ago, the council did a blitz on one estate and stickered 500 cars for no tax. Seven days later, they came back and towed away and scrapped the 230 that were still there.
They now do it in response to a phone call from anyone in the city. They sticker, then tow away 24 hours later. Incidentally, tax has to be more than a month out of date for this to happen.
So, if you live in Southampton and see an untaxed car, just call 08005 19 19 19 and they'll get it crushed.
(I met the wife of the bloke who does the stickering this morning, which is why I know the facts in this case)

I think the word you were looking for is "chavs".

Let's hope it includes driving w/o insurance/tax/MoT. Crushing the car would be a very good deterrent.
Yes, preferably with the occupants still in it !
