Apology from Growlette - GRowlette
He made me review my posts and I see now how long they are. Really they are too much.

Sorry to everyone.
Catherine.

No apology necessary - nobody has to read a long post !

Apology from Growlette - GrumpyOldGit
Absolutely right. No complaints here. Please continue with your interesting and entertaining posts.

Growlette,

For goodness sakes stop worrying about it and apologising. As Growler can no doubt tell you, I am quite capable of mentioning something I don\'t like.

Your notes are fine.

Mark.

Catherine, if you follow RF's advice, any chance you could also remind him to adjust his calendar? It appears to be running about 130 years slow.

I have been reading some posts which appear to have been written in the days when cars were preceded by a man with a red flag.

Thanks!

"Really they are too much"

Really they are not too much. Keen to read the next instalment.

As Mark says, he is quite capable of editing or removing stuff that doesn't fit. Tell Growler to have a(nother) virtual JD and stay out of the computer room.

Now I see she's at it again!

Actually RF I am sipping on a shot of that heavenly nectar in the square bottle with the black label as we speak, accompanied by a San Miguel, just to aid the digestion you understand. Well it's 9 p.m. on a Friday night....and it's pension day as well.......

In response to the earlier Oldsmobile thread, I came across this:

www.drivingtoday.com/carstuff/greatest_cars/olds_r.../

Interesting for those of us with an interest in Americana.

Ah - you meant a slug, not a slap.

Catherine,
Speaking for myself - no apology needed.

Very interesting reading - hope the leg is healing nicely and Growler is coping with the housework ;-)

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Hi Catherine,

Sorry, not been here for a bit - but just echoing everybody else - don't stop posting! It's so interesting to read your posts, and fascinating to hear what goes on in your home country. So please continue to keep us informed.

Take care

Thanks to all, you have been very kind. Filipinas too much talking, always like that. So hot here but tonight a storm which helped a bit. But I made him promise not to ride out tomorrow because of the wet roads. Too much JD anyway. He's been drinking with old oil buddies from Kazakstan tonight and I want him in good shape. So hard to handle sometimes.

Any way I think our lead rider Jean Pierre will cancel anyway, it's just too hot. TV says it's 38 C today but I know it's more. They were planning to go down south and it's a bit remote. Elections coming up also and a lot of loonies about and foreigners riding expensive bikes and so on. Not good for the ride if one rider has a problem it becomes a problem for the others. Really I don't him riding if I'm not there.

Me I can't go becoz of my leg anyway.

One thing we really must do is make some pictures to post. We have 6 members now and their their girlfriends/wives/whatever. I'm kind of the organiser, do the ride plan, plan the stops, all that. Very bossy me. Philippines is really a beautiful country and the scenery is spectacular. Promise I will organize some pix.

Larry he's the newest he rides a Honda Valkyrie. Enormous 6 cylindr bike but he has to change it and it's so huge he can't u-turn it and all were laughing. Even worse Big G and me with my leg arrived at the Handle Bar (biker bar) and had to buy a round of drinks for all because we were in his car not on his bike! My fault he said and I have to pay for that! One thousand Pesos.

My Big One says soon it is time to change my car (3 years old) and this time he has a new plan. My g/f Emily flies up from Bacolod City tomorrow, I am going to meet her at Terminal 2. She has an American b/f and we have been told to go and research round the dealers what car would be a good deal for both of us.

Sorry, must be motoring. This is our project, Emily and me which our men have told us. We would like some advice.

We have to find 2 at least suitable cars for us from local dealers and tell our Bosses why these are right for us. I think strong air-con definitely in this climate and easy to park. We have Hondas, Kias, Mazdas, Fords, Nissans, Opel Astra is nice.My favorite is the Honda City so far.

Emily and Rose my half-sis will help. He says it's a good development exercise for us and I agree and I'm excited. But
not sure where to start. DavidHM I know you are good on advice because it helped his daughter.

What to do?

Anyway Big Stuff said I can have anything I want within P750k but have to justify. Gas is cheap here so not so important. He pays anyway hehe!

Sound system and that we don't care too much. But our guys were thinking if we buy two cars Emily and me we might get a better deal.

He said to do my homework so I'm trying and would like any advice.

Thanks
Catrina/Cathy/Growlette
Thank you HJ - THe Growler
Your sage advice is as ever indispensable.

Indeed the new Toyota (weird name) is available here. From the website review it seems ideal and won't break the bank either. If we buy two maybe we can get a deal on the price. I've told the two girls to get on to that today and report back.

I still like the Mazda based Ford as great value for money but it is looking a little dated now must admit.
Thank you HJ - THe Growler
HJ many thanks.

The two girls looked at the Soluna Vios as did I today. Coincidentally it's on a promo right now and one was parked in the middle of our local shopping mall at a weird angle on a rotating platform with chirpy young women in tank-tops handing out brochures to all and sundry passing by today.

Driving conditions here are very similar to Thailand and the Vios is obviously designed with those in mind. Clearly it is a car which appeals to the ladies. I can see why you bought one also.

It is a very nice car and on on the face of it ideal for their needs. They need one each. G'ette for the city here and Emily for down south where she lives on the islands.

Definitely one that any Manila girl needs to be seen in pulling up at Starbucks at the Shangri-La Hotel! Toyota here won't budge on the price (not today anyway), but there were hints of a servicing/insurance package/road assistance deal if it goes down to the wire..Anyway that's usual here. Nobody in the PI pays the sticker price for anything, that's a given.

Seems they can sell all they can get their hands on. OTR they are just a bit OTT compared with the opposition pricewise. I mean about 20%. Reason is locally assembled cars get tax breaks, imported don't. There is no doubt the Mazda-based Ford Lynx, while a trifle dowdy these days despite various facelifts, is still the best value in that bracket. Hers has been 100% trouble-free. It's just getting a bit old.

Ford do a great insurance + servicing deal OTR which makes economic sense. They will talk discounts too if you don't mind waiting a month or so for delivery from the local plant. We also have 3 years + of dealing with Ford Philippines and they really do try harder. I have no reason to think Toyota wouldn't either but it's nice to be on first name terms with salespeople and techs you've known for a while.

It's sort of comforting to have a call on your cellphone every 6 months or so sorry Sir hope I'm not disturbing you it's Gladys here from Ford and my records suggest maybe you need to check your car in for a service.......................

We have elections coming up in a week. If these go bad, the Peso will go in the tank and if we pay in Ben Franklins we should be able to get a good deal....so I'll wait for that.

Anyway not finished yet. The truth is out there......somewhere.
