Picasso 1.6 HDI 110 - BobbyG
Anyone any experience, viewpoint on the above? Friend is looking at maybe buying one, trading in his 307 diesel (90) for it.
Is the 1.6 a big enough engine for the Picasso?
HJ hasn't roadtested it as far as I can see and the forum that has a link pasted on the car by car breakdown doesn't seem to have many people currently active on it!

Any thoughts?

Hi Bobby

I was thinking just the same the other day, these are quite big things and a 1.6 diesel putting out 110bhp, my initial thoughts were it might not last or be a bit weedy.

Has anyone tried one or got any info on how the engine bears up if its been used elsewhere?

Given the price that a Picasso can be bought for they are worth a look, very popular round here 4 fairly new ones in my road alone but they are all petrol ones.

as always

I think the Citroen gets first use of the new 1.6 engine. There is a review at the Fleet News website

The engine has more power than the old 2 litre 90 bhp engine and more torque also, so I can't see why there should be a problem. In addition it has better economy.

Also, it has more power than the 1.6i, not much less than the 1.8i and much more torque than either.

I've currently got the 2.0 HDI 90bhp version and wouldn't say that it is particularly sluggish.

This is my second Picasso and I wouldn't buy another simply because of the complete hash Citroen made of the "revamped" electronics for the 2003 model year, along with the usual denial that there is in fact a problem.

Myles, can you expand on that? My pal is going to look at a new Picasso within next few hours! Any info would be appreciated.

There has been quite a bit of discussion about it in the Picasso forum:

No problem. To be fair, there have been some fixes along the way. To start with there was a discrepancy between the mileage recorded by the trip computer and that by the mileometer "proper" - on my car the difference was about 10%. There has been a software fix on this.

There was also a problem with the electronic dash going blank and a fix was introduced which invloved removing the dash and putting some electronic black box in which smoothed out power surges (allegedly).

One problem which has remained is the instant fuel economy figure. On my original Picasso this updated every second, unless the speed dropped below 13mph. On the new model it updates every second for six seconds, then hangs for 10 seconds, updates for sic, etc. etc. Also, the updates often don't start until you're doing anything up to 25mph, depending on where the computer is in it's "hang" phase when you pull away. My dealer tried to convince me that this was how it's supposed to work - having come from an earlier Pic, I knew that it wasn't. Not a huge problem in the overall scheme of things.

If your pal is looking at a Picasso, check the stated specification with what you actually get very carefully. With the facelift things may have changed, but before that there were items stated in the brochure (which were on the "old" models) but weren't fitted on the 2003 model year cars, for example a 60-second period after turning off the ignition when you can close the electic windows is no longer fitted, no is the constantly live 12v sockets (despite even the driver's handbook saying it is).

After having a great deal of satisfaction from my first Pic, the second one has been a bit of a let down - not because of the car per se, more because of the failure of Citroen and it's dealers to accpet that there are problems and come up with suitable fixes within a reasonable timescale.

Thanks for that, will qickly read up on this on the picasso forum website!
Now been to the dealer. Being offered £5500 to change from

307 HDI(90) Rapier 2002 3 dr 52reg 23000 miles (Parkers trade in price about £8300)

to Picasso 1.6HDI Exclusive with metallic paint (Hurricane Grey)
List price £16645 plus cost of paint, minus £2300 Citroen discount equals £14345 (Car in stock and can be registered tomorrow)

So in theory should be about £6000 plus cost of paint to change, being offered £5500. However, cashback deal ends tomorrow so needs to decide today. Does anone know what next month's Citroen deal will be??
