Can anyone tell me how much a 1990 (H) Audi 100 2.0E is worth. It has done 95K.

It's with the garage at the moment and will need brake shoes, cylinders, hand-brake cable, rear light cluster, a full service and replacement exhaust front section (and maybe a cat as well) to make it roadworthy.

I don't know whether the cost of the jobs will exceed the value of the car!

Thanks in advance

Paul

Not sure about the value, but it won't need a cat as its pre 1992.

TBH its value is likely to be very modest - £1k if you're lucky maybe, if MoT'd and in smart condition.

Thanks for your responses.

I figured it wasn't worth much. It definitely has a cat but re: <92, does that mean it's possible to just replace the exhaust sans cat?

MOT expires in September so probably scrap on expiry.

Pretty worthless. Trade in about 300/400. Might get 900/1100 in a private sale if you're really really lucky.

On expiry, I'd put it into ebay if I were you, and you'll still get your 3/400.

Provocative statement: Don't bother with the service (except brakes), have the exhaust patched, not replaced, run it until September and then get rid with no MOT. Welcome to Bangernomics!

What\'s the car worth to you? If the car doesn\'t need a cat to pass it\'s MOT then get rid of the cat or get it rodded out if the case is ok.

Can\'t skimp on brakes but you should get a rearlight cluster from a scrappy.

If you sell the car as is it\'s virtually worthless, you\'ve then got to buy a replacement - if you\'re happy with car, for £500-600 you can get another years motoring which isn\'t bad value.

There's a couple of rear lights on ebay at the moment, if yours is the A6 shape.

Though thte car may be worthless, it would cost you £1200 to buy it!

Thanks for the tip, alas it's the old shape model. I found some via a breaker's yard site for £25 plus vat plus delivery but not sure what to do about the car considering the other problems.

When I went to collect the car the chap suggested that it wouldn't work without the cat because of back-pressure! But he did say come back and speak to the mechanic about it this week, so I don't think his was an expert opinion.

The other thing is that the engine was replaced and I don't know when the cambelt was changed either!!

Decisions decisions!!

It's worth MINUS £30 cos that is what a breaker will charge to tow it away...

But he can drive it there so it shouldn't have a minus value yet.

In London, they'll come to collect your cars for you. So my 1983 Polo turned out to have some value after all - bulbs, half tank petrol, selection jubilee clips, fuses, erm...

The old shape ones are worthless, I'm afraid. With a list of requirements like that, I'd scrap it now (or rather, put in on eBay!) You can often pick up a whole 'spares or repairs' one on ebay for less than the cost of the new second hand lights... sometimes even with MOT!

I asked a similar question to this yesterday at a dealer out of interest (I have a nice '89 2.0E similar mileage). I was offered £80! Seriously though, this car runs well, is solid - much more so than the passat I bought I ran for six years without a hiccup, and that had 168,000 hard miles on it when bought and 245,000 when I gave it to my brother. Cost me £200.
With TLC your car could run for a long time. If it was exported to Cuba it would still be on the road in 30 years time, would be called a limousina, and probably have a replacement tractor engine fitted that ran on alcohol... We are spoilt in this country, and fritter away the Earth's resources too easily.

current scrap price is about £100 per ton in the north .people going about looking for old cars ,even paying for them in some cases.I think the legal need for a catalyser came in with K reg

I traded my 1990 G reg 100 2.0E 5cyl last year for £300 - actual 'value' '£145, squire'.

Best car I ever had, 9 years living outside, 75,000 - 145,000, never went wrong except for HT leads; when the cat flange rusted away replaced with straight length of pipe - I think it ran slightly better. Never saw the inside of a garage except for MoT, passed every yr except last one - tiny nick in flexible brake hose - changed it myself.

Just remembered - it didn't start well until the cold start plug [down by exh manifold] was disconnected - there's an extra injector which squirts a bit more petrol in than an old engine needs when you start it - makes it too rich.

This one has been very low maintenance as well. The actually car belongs to my parents so the final decision isn't mine to make. If it's possible to 'lose' the cat they might be more inclined to repair it, and since the car only covers a couple of thousand a year if they do scrap it (as mentioned earlier) they've still got to buy a replacement.

I'll give them the facts and see what they want to do.

Provided you're not in the Highlands, look for a sub £100 one on ebay with MOT & driveable, drive it to your local garage, get them to move the parts across, and put it back on ebay with no reserve, buyer to collect. You probably won't lose anything, and with the savings on the parts you won't have to buy, you'll be well in profit.
