Saw HJ's comment about residual values on these cars at auction. My local main dealer is selling a 1,000 mile 03 2.2 Elegance in silver for only £13,495 - seems a bargain at that kind of price and cheaper than a nearly new Network Q Omega

Well I can't comment on anything other than the price which seems very cheap indeed! Having said that I've yet to see a Signum in the 'flesh' so it would seem they're less than popular for some reason. Still that all makes for a good second hand buy. If you go ahead why not keep the BR posted as to how the the car shapes up.

Not my cuppa by a million miles, but I had one parked next to me in a car park last week. Owner was very pleased with his because (a) it was something different, (b) it had acres of space front and back, (c) the discount was so huge that it meant he could have something 'more' than his car allowance would normally give, and (d) he cared not a jot about the depreciation because it was a company car.
Made me hark back to 1997 and my Vectra SRi V6 Estate company car, which just scraped in to my then £350pcm ceiling (by 1p) by virtue of the fact that Vauxhall was knocking it out for the same price as the 2.0, which I wouldn't have touched with a barge pole. (V6 plus aircon v 4 pot without aircon? No contest!) I ended up enjoying it so much, that it was followed by a GSi Estate three years later that I also enjoyed hugely, and wish we could still be running today as SWMBO's wagon.

I won't be buying one Volvoman. I bought a new shape Vectra two weeks ago. I happened to notice the Signum whilst looking for the Vectra.
I've seen quite a few Signums on the M4 on the daily commute however. I think their main drawback is the fact that they are a four seater (no middle perch).

Certainly sounds like it. In comparision, my local dealer is selling a June 03 2.2 Design in Met blue, with 7,000 miles on the clock for £14,995. I must admit I liked the look of it, but not at that price.

Don't think 'cheap now', think 'worth little' in the future. The Signum is an orphan, and if it didn't make sense when it was launched why will it make sense in the future?
Bit like a Jazz in pink metallic: jolly now, a stinker at part ex.

Talking of Signums and Vectras, has anyone seen a new Vectra estate on the road yet?
|
Seen about a dozen Signums (is that the correct term??) and numerous Vectra estates. Driving up and down the M53 past the Vauxhall plant means you tend to see all the Vauxhall range at some time or other.

I see about 3 signums a week; and a total of 3 Vectra estates so far - looks like the signum only uglier....but the more practical of the 2 alternatives IMHO.

GM have obviously produced an 'orphan' to rank alongside the Avantime, 166, Vel Satis, Scorpio, 607, Safrane et al.
They did have a tricky problem, though. The respected Omega needed replacing and GM's european brands are not strong enough to take on the Germans in a status obsessed market. So what to do? GM tried to offer something different and, predictably, have failed. Would a conventional alternative have succeeded?
If GM are serious about competing in this market will they have to follow Ford's lead and buy a suitable brand? How much would BMW cost them?
