Shuddering Golf - puff_paddy
Morning all,

I have a Golf Gti mk 8v that shudders and shakes when maintaining a constant speed over 50mph.

Seems to be only occuring in 5th, over 50 mph, and does not occur on full throttle. Any ideas?

Thanks

Drive shaft outer C/V very badly worn, get under and grab it with bothhand and pull and push backwards and forwards, if the movement is anything other than slight then that could be your problem. Peter

I doubt it's because your wheels are unbalanced, but may be worth a check if all else fails?

Just a thought rear wheel severly out of balance?/carbunkle ie
bulge in tyre inside or out?

...hope it's not the driveshaft, I replaced this only 5-6 months ago after it fell out and munched through the joint shorts after changing my suspension.

I am going to change all tyres soon as they are knocking on now, so hopefully that will sort or rule the balancing/tracking out.

May well be tracking or balancing, the rear bearings have become noisy of late so could this be a sign?

Thanks,

You said it does not do it when accelerating thus the driveshaft very worn suspension bushes. i.e. on the throttle the front wheels pull forward biasing the goemetry but on the cruise the things are moving around and get a wobble on. It could be a damaged tyre but I assumed you had already checked that out. Regards Peter
