Fitting a Towbar on a 406 - Mike M
Has anybody fitted a towbar to a Peugeot 406 saloon? Grateful for any advice. Thanks.

Did one on my dad's N reg 406 saloon.

Rear bumper didnot have to come off. Fairly straightforward to fit except for the fixings on the LH side above the rear silencer and heat shields. In reality it is best to remove and refit the rear silencer which may be tricky if it's rusty.

Electrics are easy enough. I can't remember which side the lighting loom comes down but all I did was take that side's rear lamp unit out completely and then you've got loads of room to wire up to the existing loom for the lighting socket.

If you need any more info contact Witter or any of the large towbar manufacturers. They will usually send/fax the fitting instructions which will give you a good indication for any vehicle of potential pitfalls or time taking procedures.

Many thanks for the info Charles. I'll put some WD40 on the silencer and heat shield and let it soak in for a few days before I attempt the job. The electrics seem to be on the nearside - and Peugeot should be congratulated for putting in a spare wire for power to the 12S socket. I think it has its own fuse (F15 I think) through the ignition switch.
