quick question.

if you go over you service interval by say a mile or two will you invalidate your warranty?

what about by say 50 miles?

I suggest you read the small print of your warranty policy. Each and every policy will be different, depending on who the warranty is provided by.

Andy,

No doubt even one mile over the limit will technically invalidate the warranty. Whether the warranty provider will overlook this depends, I think, who he is and how important your future custom is.

If you are talking about an aftermarket breakdown warranty where, typically, every possible ploy is used to avoid payment, then any over-mileage at all could be bad news.

When you say over the limit, do you mean say 12001 miles on a 12000 mile service interval? The reason I ask is that my Alfa has a 12k mile service interval but you have another 1k on top of this as a safety net, so check your manual

In my experience up to 1000 miles over is ok. I.e. you call the dealer and they are booking three days ahead, you have the car serviced, next time you call the dealer with 500 miles to go though they are this time booking three weeks ahead, what do you do?, you continue to drive the car.

As above you need to check the book. The Xantia was 500 either way, but apparently interpreted against the odometer rather than the service indicator. Could therefore be up to a thousand if one 500 early and the next 500 late. Dealer quite happy to carry them out more than 500 early (eg before 1.5k mile trip to the Hebrides) with the obvious proviso that the next service was no more than 12.5k miles on.

I've never had to show the service history with any of the warranty work I've had done, just the little card or whatever you get with a new car.

Check the Policy booklet - most allow between 500 & 1000 miles either way mileage-wise or 1 month
