What was the deal with the Vectra at auction then (HJ's report right).
I know that auction vehicles are rarely valeted or otherwise made to look good but it was almost as if the seller was trying to deliberately lower the price!
They could have at least got it started...
I would have bought it at that price.

How come a 52 plate car is suffering from something that would stop it starting? Would that sort of thing not be covered by warranty?
Unless it had just run out of petrol...
What's the deal HJ?

I won't be buying FL52 JSY even if it comes with a warranty underwritten by the almighty himself. Not that I would consider a Vectra of course (sniff).

>>Not that I would consider a Vectra of course
Who would ? By the way, where's DD today ?
8-)

I'd consider scrapping one. But only if I didn't have to drive it to the scrapheap.

He\'s sawing at his wrists with a handy piece of trim that fell off his Luton laughmobile (aka Vectra) after sitting through a boring meeting all morning. As I said; \"welcome to my world....\"

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the next Alfa due out (or may already be out) got some connection with GM and the Vectra chassis??
|
It looks like the 158 (157?) will be based on the SAAB developed premium floorpan that GM have decreed SAAB can't afford to use, so not really a Vectra-based car, but nice try.
;o)

Whatever. My Vectra still beat your Alfa out of the pub carpark ;o)
|
Just 'cos I was playing with the satnav! In your Vectra the closest thing you have to satnav is when you accidentally parked your bum on a dog-eared atlas!
Ok, I'm cheating as mine's on my iPAQ, but I still had to slot it into the cradle on the dash, fire it up and instruct it to convey me homewards.
Bloomin' cheek.

ND - can't you just find some grounds to moderate his message?

I don't need fancy gadgets to find my way out of the pub car park. I just look for a sign saying exit. You ought to try it sometime.
|
But you weren't parked in the pub car park.
(Well, it does seem to be pedants' day)
|
But you weren't parked in the pub car park.
That's because there was a badly parked Alfa taking up 3 spaces.

Thommo, 'RARELY VALETED'???
Most of the bigger clients insist on the vehicles being fully prepared, Manheim even have Dentmaster & similar on site in numbers, at Colchester, doing their bit to improve an achieved selling price.
The worst problems we've had, was when British Gas & Royal Mail, decided that their vans should get the Showroom Valet treatment. The grief that caused us in the paint shop, with the silicone containing, valet products, was crazy!!
When you've got 000's of vehicles to de-fleet, the actions are screwed down so tightly on fees, they'll collect, de-sticker, valet, enter however many times it needs, to sell it, for pennies, in commission!!
Then rely on the buyers premium as their margin.

Guy in work picked up an 03 plate 1.8 with 16k for £6,799 - not bad at all.

Surely the fact it was pulled through on a rope (at that age) suggests this car was a bit of a dog?
Vauxhall batteries used to be supplied by ac delco- if this is still the case, i doubt this was the cause for the vehicle not starting. The car is probably 2k under book. Would anyone here bid anymore money on a car that might need a new engine? Why else would it be entered, sold as seen, with that age/milleage? It's possible the fault was insignificant (so why didnt they fix it so it ran?) and someone got a great bargain, but would you take the risk? I wouldn't.

Vauxhall batteries used to be supplied by ac delco....
They still are, AFAIA, but delco let Vauxhall put their own branding on. Same with spark plugs and filters.

Don't take any notice DD, I'm with you. To all the Vectra knockers I must just say I've had my 1998 1.8ls for 3 yrs now, its been 100% reliable for the 60k miles I've put on it, and although its got 89k on the clock I still get 42-44 mpg and its still got its original front and rear pads in it, one of the best cars I've had for doing 120 miles a day. As for the one at auction for that money even if it needed a new engine you can pick up a decent 1.8 lump for £500 and you still have a cheap car. But to all you knockers keep slagging off the ole Veccy please cos it makes it cheap to buy for us lot that can't be bothered to keep on fixing Fords.
