im not sure about the law on where they were but they do have to announce in local press there intentions and locations . as they are roadside distractions.

Local traffic plod in my area (Mr Brunstrom's patch) are often seen parking their patrol cars on hatching markings between on slips and main carriageways at certain junctions, usually where a speed limit is changing.
I think the idea is that they will easily catch someone speeding as the patrol car is hidden by the embankment on approach.

Not quite as sneaky with the camera vans, but that said, they do park camera vans on a 30 mph road which runs parallel to a 50mph dual carriageway (formerly 70 mph), aiming the camera at the dual carriageway traffic.

Poor plod can't win can he. Either he is in disguised vans, or hired ones with magnetic livery, or he's enforcing law 'n' order from a dodgy position...or he's nowhere to be seen at all.

You can't keep everyone happy all of the time can you?

i have nothing against law and order but in the bristol area we have an unofficial club called the 41 club its members are locals who have been caught and prosecuted for 41 in a 40 limit i kid you not this is zero tolerance and is the reason why locals get so wound up about these mobile cash machines . if you are doing 50 in a 40 fair cop but 41 seems ridiculous we also seem to have lots of new limits imposed over short distances ie long 50 short 40 short 30 back to 40 then back to 50 allin a couple of hundred yards and for no apparent reason except finance

There's a roundabout in Leicester City centre near the bus terminus which has a hatched area on one side where you'd expect the outside lane to be. This sensibly preserves the outside line of the single lane going around but because the bus stops are oversubscribed at rush hour, a few buses have taken to parking on the hatches to wait for a space. This is all very well until you happen to approach the roundabout from a certain direction while a bus is there, and realise that it completely blocks your view of traffic coming around until you're already 3ft over the line.

After having a word with a friendly bike mounted copper across the street, I dropped in at the bus company's booking office and suggested they sort their act out, and to their credit they did. Unfortunately another company has started to do the same thing, so around we go..
