Renault Clio - Best place to sell, Any tips - malct

I am looking at buying a second hand Clio around 2 years old, There around 4 that i am interested in with 3 been sold by the Renault retail group, 2 of those are Demo company cars one in Cardiff and the other in Bristol and they are offering the lowest trade in price for my Clio that i bought Pre Reg in 2017 from Renault retail Bolton. which is the 1.5 Diesel in Mars red. After sending lots of photos , Bristol have offered me £4300 and Cardiff have offered £3000.

I have looked at We buy any car, There top price is £4800 and Carwow are saying that they can sell my car for £5600. I have never looked into Carwow and unsure how it works, But reading a couple of reviews, Buyers have gone to pick up the car from the seller and picking faults and lowering the price of the car.

I would imagine that local car dealers may offer what we buy any car are offering.

I just wonder if the members here have any advice on selling cars to get the best price or just go for a trade in and save all the hassle. My car is in Good condition with 53,000 miles on the clock and comes under the new £20 road tax, It was Zero .

I am waiting for a price from Evans Halshaw and regards Renault retail, They are mainly trying to sell a finance packages and i am a cash buyer and not open to haggling

You will get a better PX price if you take finance. You need to check, but most will allow you to take the finance out then pay it off in full.

If your car is good, see if a friend or family member is interested at, say, £5k. You could try other car buying services, which may pay more than WBAC. You could also try Motorway, which is similar to the Carwow approach.

Ultimately, there is not a huge market for small diesels so you may struggle.

I did ask Renault about talking out a finance deal and then paying it off within the 14 days but they said that they would almost cancel the deal and i would have to return the car,

That's withdrawing from the finance deal. You can settle the finance at any point with a small penalty for interest.

I guess i would need to read the small print, There is normally a end of contract payment and admin costs with these.

1. Selling a Renault Clio – best place & tips
  • Autotrader UK Biggest online marketplace, very wide audience.

  • Gumtree Motors Free/low-cost listings, but more private buyers.

  • Motors.co.uk Good reach, simpler listings.

  • eBay Motors (Classifieds) Lots of eyeballs, auction or fixed price.

  • Facebook Marketplace Quick, local, but more casual buyers.

  • WeBuyAnyCar / Motorway / Cazoo Fast, trade-style purchase, but usually lower offers.
    Tips:
Get a fresh MOT if possible — makes the car much easier to sell.
Clean & photo the car in daylight, from multiple angles.
Gather all service history / receipts.
Be upfront about faults (saves time and builds trust).
Compare valuations on Autotrader & WBAC to set a fair price.

2. End of contract payment and admin costs

That sounds more like you’re talking about leasing / PCP finance agreements rather than a private sale.

  • On PCP (Personal Contract Purchase), yes, there’s usually a final “balloon” payment if you want to keep the car.

  • Returning the car can involve admin fees, excess mileage charges, and wear & tear costs.

  • Always read the small print (contract terms), as every finance provider is different.

  • If you’re thinking of selling the car but it’s still under PCP, you’ll need to settle the finance first (get a settlement figure from the lender).

To misquote Mandy-Rice Davies: "they would, wouldn't they".

That’s correct – if you cancel within the 14-day cooling off period, the finance agreement is effectively void and you’d be required to hand the car back. It’s not just a case of paying it off early, the whole deal is cancelled

Quick Look online and you’ll almost certainly find a few local car buying services, or dealers who’re advertising that they buy cars. Offer it to them all and see who offers the most money. We have a good one locally that comes to your door, pays the money without unnecessary fees, does the transfer of ownership online then takes the car away. I’ve sold several good retail ready cars to them over the years and they’re always spot on.

I wouldn’t try to sell it privately yourself, you’ll be inundated by i****s and scam artists.

I used Motorway to sell my car, I got more for it than they predicted (and what I thought) and the transaction was seamless and quick…

I used Motorway to sell my car, I got more for it than they predicted (and what I thought) and the transaction was seamless and quick… They are quoting £5350, If i got that much i will be very happy. I am still waiting for my quote from Evans Halshaw , They wanted to see photos of the service history and cambelt change, photos of the car inside and out which is understandable and they say that they give good PX Prices ... They say

Great price - Because we're able to sell or trade your car without going through a third-party buying service first, we can give you our best possible price

Just a update, We buy any car offering £4200 from their online offer of £4800 and a local garage are offering £4500. Regards taking out a loan with Renault, Renault are saying if i take out a loan over 48 months, I can pay off the loan after 6 payments and i will keep the 2 years free service and the £500 discount, So i would save money But i would need to pay this off on the 6 months otherwise i will be paying more interest

A son tried a few sites his Audi RS6 including the garage he bought it from - just over the 3.5 years old.

He got the best price from Motorway - all the offers were within a matter of hours and one the following day. The offers were apparently very siimilar to each other. The "late bid" was considerably higher - over £5,000 higher!!

He took the offer, car was collected a few days later and no hassle on the price.

He thinks the buyer may well have had a customer for the car and bid high to get the car & a quick turn profit.

It was rather funny yesterday pulling up at a independent garage and i seen a guy walking around and he looked like the owner , So i asked him if he was looking at buying cars , He said yes and asked what i was selling and said that he was interested, Then he started talking about finance , i asked him what he meant, He said that he only had a grand in cash and that he needed to borrow the rest , Turned out that i was talking to a guy off the street ;-)

That sounds like a good result ?? Motorway seems to be working well for a lot of people at the moment — quick offers, competitive bidding, and smooth collection. The late high bid makes sense if the buyer already had someone lined up for the RS6; they’ll sometimes pay over the odds to secure it fast and flip it. Nice to hear it all went hassle-free, especially given the value of the car. ????

Look-don’t muck about. Wash/wax the car/vac it out and polish up the inside plastics.
Then get WBAC in. You might not get the ultimate top price-but it’ll be hassle free and honest.
