2017-2018 - SEAT Ateca as an upgrade from my small Yaris - sunseeker87

Long story but I am torn between so.many different cars and models to upgrade my 2011 Toyota Yaris.I test drive some Suzuki Vitaras 2017, and to me they just felt a bit lacking for me especially in terms of the driver comforts. One car that has been suggested to me is the SEAT Ateca and I just wondered what people thought about them? I would be going for a petrol, highhigh sped with a winter pack ideally as I live in Scotland!

Many thanks

In what way was the Vitara lacking? What is it that you want that it didn't have?

Nothing massively wrong with the Ateca as long as you avoid the auto. Parts will be expensive because that's what VW are like.

I think it just didn't have the quality feel inside for me in the interior,it had a reversing camera which is great but ideally I would like heated seats and a windscreen as well.

maybe I should just keep looking

Have a look at the Kia Stonic, or Xceed if you want something a bit bigger. Kias are always packed with toys.

The wee Seat is fine, if as with any car it is properly looked after. I’d avoid the auto though.

Uk spec Vitara models don’t have heated seats . None have heated windscreen either. Not sure I’d want to buy into the vag brand . They’ve not been the most reliable make recently.

Contrary to the advice above I have a 2024 Ateca 1.5 auto. AFAIK there are detail changes to spec since 2017 rather than any major re-design.

At just over a year old it would be surprising if any problems had arisen - changes are just about imperceptible and evidenced only by the indicator on the instrument panel.

My car has a 7 speed wet clutch - I understand it is earlier dry clutch DSG boxes which gave some problems. Given VW group has sold millions of DSG equipped vehicles over 2 decades it seems likely that any weaknesses would by now have been designed out.

As a car I find it entirely comfortable and delivers what I expected. It seems well screwed together with the focus on decent functionality rather than superficial gizmos and fancy interior finishes - suits me fine.

Before buying I did look at new Vitara and Dacia Duster (Ateca was ex-demonstrator). By comparison I found them somewhat crudely finished and obviously built down to a price, not up to a quality standard.
