I was driving around in a car that had these airbags fitted twenty years ago. I declined the recall, as it had a rattle free dash and sold it on.

In France’s overseas territories, at least 17 people have been killed in incidents involving the airbags since 2016. One person also died in March in Guadeloupe. The (recent)Reims crash was the second fatal incident in mainland France.

The airbag system deteriorates quicker in high temperature/high humidity environments.

Ongoing news on airbag problem in France

The Ministry of Transport ordered the grounding of an additional 800,000 vehicles of all makes on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, due to Takata airbag malfunctions . This brings the number of vehicles subject to a driving ban for this reason to 1.7 million, reports Agence France-Presse ( AFP ).

In the meantime, the minister will issue a decree in the coming days to ensure that every motorist affected by an immobilization measure can benefit from a courtesy vehicle or have their rental car taken care of as the summer holidays approach.

Does the recall include the Picasso variant? Two of my neighbours has them built in that period, and they appear to share a good deal of underpinnings with the other cars mentioned.
