Do any car manual specifically recommend NOT using an injector cleaner?
Can they do any damage?
Does anyone uses one? What would they recommend? Greased lightening, Cataclean, Redex, Wynns? etc

I use VW's own fuel additive (part number G 001 700 03) in my Golf VR6, MB 320 Coupé and Capri 2.8i. No known problems; several known benefits -- instant cure for cool-running problems on an Audi 100, likely factor in very low emissions readings from VR6 at MOT. Heartily endorsed by my German-car specialist mechanic, I have every confidence in it, and I thank HJ for putting me on to it in the first place.

Use paraffin? apparently its the same stuff 1ml per litre of petrol.
|
HJ speaks well of Miller's Diesel Plus. It apparently helps increase the 'lubricity' of the fuel, which is reduced if it is a Low Sulphur blend. It also has other benefits reported here like a double dose reduces emissions if used just before an MOT.

Forte fuel treatment is v.good.
|
These always seem to smell of cheap things such as paraffin, kerosene and ispropanol. Yet they change a lot of money.
|
DD. Is the Forte stuff available to the public, if so from where please? I had got the impression that it was a 'trade only' product.
|
AS,
My local Vauxhall dealer sells it to the public, and I vaguely remember someone saying certain ATS tyre/exhaust places as well.
Couple of threads here that mention locations as well.

change the engine to a v8 they put these in the triumph stag years ago. I had one that had done spaceship miles and it only let me down once on the way back from jupiter.
|
You're not supposed to drink it - just put it in the car...

Most, if not all, aftermarket petrol additives are just a detergent surfactant to allow the petrol to 'wet' the component surfaces and dissolve any deposits ('gum', of which where is about 1-5mg per 100ml of petrol).
Parafin will do this, to an extent.
As far as I know all petrol sold through the UK retail filling stations has detergent added. This may not be the case for fuels distributed by other means (e.g. petrol for racing/rallying etc. and for engine research & development).

Ford's advise not to use oil or fuel additives in the vehicle handbook, but I just use Shell Optimax all the time in the Mondeo V6 and it runs as smooth a silk (I must go find a piece of wood to touch now);).
