Further to your posts in December have you resolved the noise on your espace? I only ask as mine has now started making a noise from about 45mph onwards, increasing in volume. I am hoping it is a wheel bearing but knowing this bastorial moneypit it is going to be more serious!!

Andrew,

Sorry I've not replied sooner.

Anyway, based on the replies from the forum and from what the garage said, I decided to wait until the noise got louder. It has done and now I'm almost convinced it is a wheel bearing, as it completely disappears when braking. I do have several other noises which now with the weather warming up I shall investigate a bit further, a rumble under acceleration (possibly a gearbox noise) and a rattle from the front suspension on bad surfaces.

Did you find out what your noise was?

Paul

Hi Paul, well as the noise is only evident in 4th gear and slightly audible in 5th I am going to bite the bullet and rip the damn thing apart again. Whilst it is apart I shall replace the clutch master and slave cylinder assembly AGAIN as the (new) clutch is biting right at the bottom of the stroke. As we are off to the cars' homeland in August I dont want to risk gearbox failure whilst away. What galls me is the ungrateful wretch has been serviced to the eyeballs with an oilchange every 3000 miles and annual replacement of all fluids and it only has 65k on the clock, more recent failures are the airbag clockspring on the steering column has expired and the recent MOT advised play in steering rack oh, and also the retaining clips on the alloy wheel hub covers have rotted off!

Andrew,

Is your website (www.uktuneup.co.uk) off-line at the moment?

Looking to arrange a visit from one of your team (Epsom).

How can a person in your line of work run a Renault? My friend who runs his own repair 'shop (for last 15 years) reckons that between them, Rover, Renault and FIAT pay his mortgage. He 'doesn't like' Japanese cars because he so rarely sees one!

With the benefit of hindsight I tend to agree with you. I would never ever run another Renault or any other French car.
