Is it just a Manchester thing, or does almost every X5 country wide have a registration that starts X5?
|
Yes, apart from the ones that start with Y, XX51, XX02, XX52... :-)
..but seriously, I suppose at the time it was a cheapish way of personalising your reg and perhaps adding a couple of quid to the resale value?

Here too (Bath)
Also:
TT52 ??? - Audi TT (never!)
A3 *** or S3 ***, A4 ***, A6 *** and A8 *** (there are lots of Audis in Bath)
911 *** (two of them at the local hospital, one a 964 and the other 993)
And the odd BMW***, MW being a local reg (Wiltshire)
and my boss used to have a Saab 900, so the plate was (firm's initials) SAC 900. Sold it for £2-3,000 IIRC.

I find the whole number plate thing quite strange. A few years ago I was waiting to take delivery of a new Merc and my wife went on the DVLA website and bought me a plate with 4 letters and one number for £250 fo my birthday, ( some of you have seen the plate) nothing special but it was a gift and has my initials so I have kept it and transferred it to my new car.
The strange thing was whilst in the office a couple of months ago a chap called in and asked who owned the Merc outside. I said it was mine and he offered me £600 for it cash.
I refused but he left me his number as he has the same initials and now keeps ringing every other week and the offer has now risen to £900.
Personally I think he's mad.

Mad he may be but have you ever heard the saying "a fool and his money are easily parted"?
Next time he rings try suggesting that you may be willing to sell for 5 grand ;)

Many of tehse M3 X5 etcc plates are bought cheap in bulk by the dealer, especially when a new model is launched....the salespeople then concoct a cock and bull story to impress the customer.
|
Not many incorporating "XM" though..
(unless you know otherwise..)
