white lines ... don't do it! - Ian (Cape Town)
Bizarre tale this one. The local council have taken advantage of the XMas break/school holidays to do some work on the local roads. One of their tasks was to repaint the pedestrian crossing on the road. Gallons of shiny white paint later, they look good as new. However, every evening, a large water truck drives along the main thotoughfares, using high-pressure jets to rid the road of rubbish. Yours truly arrives at pedestrian crossing soon after truck goes by, dashes over ... and falls base-over-apex as my ageing trainers' grip fails to come to terms with new high-tech road coating - which is now wet! I couldn't even STAND UP, the stuff was like something out of It's a Knockout! I had to slither across to unpainted buts to get some traction.
I can't wait for the first rains... then we'll have some dodgem action there!

Why is it that I nearly always feel better about the UK when I read your posts Ian? :-)

ps - are you gonna sue 'em ?

In a town near where I live the council decided to paint the cycles lanes with a glossy green paid. Result? When it rains the cyclists fall off!
I think it settled down after a month or two as the surface 'weathered' and gave a bit more grip.
