Any retrofit full harness instead 3point? Could you do it witout a roll cage?

Anyone prefer a harness to a 3point belt?

If you think you need a full harness then you are protecting yourself from a major incident so a roll cage is a must. However if you just want to pose then this site is not for you. Regards Peter

Is a rollover incident the only occasion where a full harness is safer than a standard fit belt? An acquaintance had another car skid into her head-on a few years back (she was stationary), the seatbelt undoubtedly saved her life, but broke her breastbone. I'd guess that a full harness would have spread the load and reduced the seriousness of any injury to her in that situation.

No, A full harness is by far the better solution but in gerneral use they are not selve tightening like a diagonal harness. A full harness has to be worn quite tightly to be reallly effective and even leaning forward to select your next track on your CD player is not possible without relaesing the tension in the shoulder straps. A full Narness requires the appropriate high back seat to maintain the correct height for the left shoulder strap ( Drivers Side ) as this cannot go straight to the floor. This incorrect mounting will fail an MOT and even in a medium inpact can break your collar bone. To fit full harness you have to do the job proberly !! Regards Peter

Andy - a full harness is also of great benefit in side crashes. A 3 point belt provides very little lateral restraint, especially if you are sat on the side of the car which is struck. E.g. if a car is struck on the driver's side, it is very common for the driver's head to contact the inside of the passenger door.

Full harnesses, when used correctly provide a much greater degree of protection in many different crash scenarios. Unfortunately, the inconvenience of them, coupled with the fact that it is illegal for a manufacturer to fit them in this country, means that they are unlikely to become more widely used outside racing drivers and max power readers.

Spent many years strapped into rally cars by such devices. They are undoubtedly superior to conventional seatbelts in just about any crash situation, but they are less user-friendly.

If you must fit one make sure you get proper advice about mounting points and any strenghtening panels that may be required. If you don't you'll be risking your life just for pose value.

Oh, and don't forget to tell your insurance company - they'll add 10 to 25% for the privelege, otherwise you'll be joining the growing band of uninsured drivers.
