Hi all ,
can anyone advise how to clean alloy wheels properly ,they were blasted app 3 years ago to a polished finish, they now look clean but not as good ,i have taken aging and weather in to it and concluded that they should still look a little better than they do.

As an occasioanl treatment you could try using WonderWheels or something like that, use a good brush and it should remove any left over brake dust. Not recommended for regular use though, it's acidic.

Try the Autoglym wheel cleaner. Dilute it if you use it frequently. Follow the instructions to the letter and you won't go far wrong, particularly in doing one wheel at a time and not leaving the stuff on the wheel too long without agitating it thoroughly and rinsing it off promptly. People seem to be anxious about the power of the acid-based alloy cleaners; I repeat a question I posed some days ago, which is why such a reputable company as Autoglym should market such a product if it is a liability. As ever, when all else fails read the instructions.

By the way, Autoglym publish a booklet and video on how to clean a car ? worth looking at at least once.

Colin,

Next time you change pads - try EBS Green Stuff.

Almost no brake dust and a better 'bite' than standard pads.

Colin, depending on the style of the alloys, once you have them clean, apply wax and polish like you would the rest of the car. This then makes it a lot easier to blast brake dust etc off the wheels later on.

I agree with BobbyG. It makes them so much easier to clean after you have polished them.
