My W plate Ford Focus 1.8 16v has a niggling cold starting problem. It will always fire after the first turn of the key, and when its ok the revs rise to about 1500 RPM quickly and then settle at about 1000RPM.
Sometimes however it will fire and the revs don't shoot up and it just dies. It never seems to do this when warm, and maybe 1 in 3 starts when its cold. Starting it after this it will always start straight away.
If I gentily blip the throttle myself as it fires its always fine, so the problem is more of a niggle than anything major. I'm wondering if its a trait of these engines that they need a touch of gas to start them from cold?
Car has only done 37k and has FSH. It has crossed my mind I'm letting go of the key too soon but I don't think this is the problem.

Hi Quinny 100,
I know nothing of the ford focus, but is it possible that the temperature sensor has a intemittent fault, worth a try.
