106 drivers window - Reggie
I am replacing the drivers window (manual) on my sons 106, probably next week (after some lowlifes broke it on Christmas evening for him). I haven't seen the Hanes manual yet, but presume it is quite straightforward. Therefore my question is , does anybody know of any pitfalls, or have any good tips. If my recall is acurate, last time that I took the door panel off, i couldn't work out how the window winder handle came off. Does anybody know?
In anticipation.

On the Saxo the window handle just pulls off. Same on Picasso, 206, Xsara.... I'd just pull.

May need a good pull, but a levering device would be better - something like a lawn-weeder, or a strong fork with the centre prong removed. The winder fits onto coarse splines, with a circlip-type of retention.

In order to get the new window in you will need to remove the window seal/outer door skin rubber from the bottom of the window on the outside.Should just pull off.the window winder handle is either screwed on or has a circlip which will pull off.but may need some effort but if the door panel is pushed in you should be able to see the circlip a push on both sides of the ends of the circlip will remove it with a small screwdriver hope it helps?

Thankyou all for the above.

Hi, The door winder is a straight pull, remove the opener surround by lifting the rear i.e. nearest the lock, end and slide it backward. Be careful these get brittle and can break the tags off. A squirt of silicon based grease works wonders. Unscrew all the door pocket screws and even the one under the electric window control panel or it?s blank depending on the year and fit. Carefully remove the plastic membrane, I can not remember if you have to remove the speaker but early one were screwed in , later ones were pop rivited, now open the window half way, remove the clip attaching the glass to the lifter then remove the glass out through the outside of the door. Refit in reverse but if you have damaged the plastic liner then repair or renew as this can allow ingress of water into the car. I think you really need a manual to work from as breaking any of these parts can cost you a tenner or of course you go to the scrap yard for the glass and practice there. Those were the days, mud, rain freezing cold, and then they charge you £20 for the glass and you later discover that your local glass replacement company do it for £90 plus as an insurance job or £45 cash on the spot and ½ and hour. I would ask about before going to far. Festive Greetings Peter. E-mail if you require more details

As said above, the winder handle pulls straight off, the door card is removed easily, undo all screws along the bottom of the pocket.
The things to look out for are, depending on the year of the car you need to leave the inner opener surround in place on the door card, this is only on late (facelift on) models.
When you have the replacement glass in your hand you will notice a hole on the back edge of the glass this is for a small retainer that runs up the back glass guide, there are a couple of ways of fitting this and both can be very fiddly.
1.Partly remove the back rubber glass guide, clip the retainer onto the glass and then tip the glass backwards into place making sure the glass has located into the front guide at the same time.
2.With the retainer and back rubber guide in place and using a very thin screwdriver holt the retainer at the right height so that when tipping the glass back into the rear guide it locates onto the retainer.
Both above methods are used once the bottom clip is in place.

Sorry if this sounds complicated, it will probably be a bit clearer once you are doing the job.

Thanks for all the above. The breakers who claimed to have a replacement glass in "clear" actually had it in "green tint", and unbelievably I cannot find one at any of the breakers within 15 miles of Leeds, and so have had to order a new drop glass for £32.00 which will arrive tomorrow. I am back at work tomorrow and so it may be Friday or Saturday before I get around to it.
Thanks again to all above. I'll let you know.

You are sure that you want clear glass are you ?

I say that because there are actually very few around with clear glass in them, many people just presume that they have clear glass because they expect tinted glass to be very dark when actually it isn't.

Yeah, I would go for tinted glass, too. A sheet of [white] paper is often a good test for tinted glass, which is not always easy to identify.

As far as I could tell it\'s clear glass. My son doesn\'t actually live at my house any more, so I cannot just go and have another look, but it appeared clear when I first looked at it. If I\'m wrong I suppose that I\'ll just have to take it back and pay a surcharge. The car is a basic model, a \"Graduate\" 4 speed box etc, so I think it will have the budget windows in, but I have to say, you\'ve both got me doubting myself.

I think you will have clear glass in a Graduate, but to be honest if the green is much cheaper then go for it. the only time you will tell a major difference is on these frosty mornings before they are cleared.

Thanks to all of you for your advice.
I have fitted the window today, and it took an hour. Thankfully, the clear glass was correct for his car, but what has suprised me is that the new drop glass (from Peugeot about £32) didn't come with the retaining clip that runs in the channel in the weatherstrip, and there was no mention of it in the Haynes manual, and so the above information was invaluable. Incidently the retaining clip "dissapeared" when the window got smashed. The window winder came off easily as described above. I think that the last time that I had the door trim off for a different job, my son had not bought a manual. It's so much easier when you know what you're doing, so once again, thnk you all.

Hiya

My Peugot 106 drivers window has lost it's runner/retaining clip that goes in the hole in the glass, I think it disintegrated when I tried to wind it down in the frost, it's not inside the door or anywhere.
I was wondering where you might have got a replacement for yours (your sons) or what you used instead. I'm currently using a piece of hard tubing but it tends to start to pull out at the top.
I guess the original is oblong/rectangular to distribute the 'pull' on it.

Sorry to take up your time
and thanks if you can help.
