Texaco Diesel - better than others? - st1
HJ often recommends Texaco petrol due to higher levels of detergent.

However, I've noticed that the pumps at Texaco stations have the 'CleanSystem3' (or whatever it is) logo beneath the petrol pumps only and not the diesel pumps.

Does this mean that there's no difference between Texaco's diesel and that of others? Or, is it superior?

Locally, most comes from the same refinery, but the difference is the additives the different companies add. For example, your local supermarket may put very basic additive in their tanker load, whereas your branded company may put a far better additive(s) in theirs.
Someone did post on this site though that all Shell Optimax comes from their own refinery?!

I think that is for others to believe or not.I personaly am not certain.I can only assume you know more than I do which if so I have no dispute.if not I would question what you say.I don`t for one minute expect one company to give different types of fuel to varius other company`s it would mean using different tanks correct me if I`m wrong as I am straying from the original question and I apologise won`t say any more

The additives are only added at the last moment, so as a ship or road tanker is loaded, the additive is added and mixed then.
If a particular refinery does a lot of petrol for say one company, then it is possible that they will have a tank specifically for them.

Another thing to consider is that many oil terminals/rigs etc are not owned by one company, usually they are co owned by various partners. Where I work, my company is the plant operator with a 33% stake. Other major oil companies own 35%, 20%, 10% and 2%

This is taken from www.ukpia.com take a look.

Q Nearly all the major UK companies have both refining and marketing interests and seem to draw petrol from each other's facilities. Surely this gives market control rather than contributing to low prices and competition?
A - The short answer is no. The UK's refineries rank amongst the most efficient in the world and coupled with excellent distribution and storage infrastructure, which includes a number of pipeline networks, the UK market in refined products is well developed. Refining companies have developed commercial arrangements for regional product swaps, which cuts out unnecessary transport of products around the country. This promotes local competition and prevents the owner of a refinery developing a dominant local position.

Companies which don't have a refinery, along with other independent wholesalers and retailers, also have access to this UK market in refined products. In addition, there is a well developed market on the near Continent, particularly in Antwerp and Rotterdam which means products can be imported into the UK with comparative ease.

So, the physical barriers to entry into the petrol retailing market are low and although owning a refinery gives access to and control over the production of products from crude oil, this does not translate to market control.

mech - this is hardly the place for English lessons, but since you ask .. two of your 4 apostrophes are plurals, which don't need them: companies, others (also Cavaliers, Granadas and even Discoveries - motoring connection); one is a verb, sounds. The fourth apostrophe is fine - "don't know" where it shows that a letter has disappeared: "do not know". Sorry, but you did ask.

Not the first time I`ve been told.to get to the point I did not know additive`s are added after petrol had been produced.I like some other`s thought all was added during production. Not at a later stage. We all make mistake`s my apollogie`s please forgive my spelling

Hey, no need to apologise Mech1, thats why we're all here!

I think people have missed the gist of my question.

Basically, if it's a given that Texaco PETROL is better than others due to better / more 'CleanSystem3' detergents, then does this also apply to its DIESEL fuel? The reason I ask is that I've noticed that the pumps at Texaco stations have the 'CleanSystem3' logo beneath the petrol pumps only and not the diesel pumps.

petrol as you know is not the same as diesel so the additives will be different.as far as diesel is concern`d the thing you will best off knowing is the less wax involved is the better the motor will run and the cleaner it is the better detergent is used in diesel also the cleaner and better it will run should also give better mileage to gallon.correct me if I`m wrong
