How stealable is your motor - Leon on Derv
Don't know if anyone has made reference to this site before.

Found it interesting but off course subjective.

www.secureyourmotor.gov.uk/cars/cartheftrating1.asp

By providing your make and model the site will use RAG status to indicate the risk of theft for your motor categorised by year from 1987 to 2001.

Might be worth a look if you think you are being hit hard (relatively speaking - harder than others) for insurance.

Holy cow, that was scary!
Can anyone explain why when I clicked the link, it went straight to the correct car for me, an Alfa 145?
That creeped me out.

We have spooky ways over here Bazza.....

Then again, it may just be that Alfa is the first manufacturer in the Alfa(sic)bet and that the 145 is the earliest model they have on their database.....

Nice to see you, great and furry denizen of Congleton.

I guess Alfa155.com is down again.

Anybody want to set up a "how secure is your home" website?

Yeah alright, I suppose, but I'm sure it's never usually first in the lists, like when you do insurance online and stuff.
Good to be here, looks like you don't like off-topic stuff over here, so I think I'll settle in nicely. :D

BTW, how did you know it was me? ;)

Off-topic has its place, but usually in the format of asking questions rather than airing views (see "I have a question" thread as an example).

Because this is a broad motoring forum rather than a one make site the variety of topics is already pretty overwhelming, hence the No Off-Topic rule. So to let my hair down I wander over to www.alfaowner.com/alfaowner/ to create a little mayhem from time to time.
BTW, how did you know it was me? ;)

Oooh, do you know, you've got me there!

Anyhooo, back to the thread.....

Taking the topic off topic to discuss off topic, would an off topic board be viable? I often ignore the "I have a question" thread as it can be a bit hard to navigate. Obviously it would be subject to the rules of the forum but I think it would be a worthwhile addition.

My car's white, an estate and diesel. I reckon the red hatch with a big engine next door will get nicked first! I could however leave the keys to SWMBO's car on a hook next to the car with a large sign to draw attention to them and the car would still be there next month (although somone may syphon out the fuel tank) but that's another thread......:)

Sorry to be the typical noobie, but what is SWMBO?

Oh right, her. I thought it was only me that had to obey her, not all you lot too.
Onto the subject, the web-site in question isn't very specific about the stealability, only low, medium and high categorisations. You'd think there was something a bit more specific.

The website gives an idea of the chance of a car being stolen based on the number of cars stolen as a percentage of the number of that particular car on the road - a more common older car is more likely to get nicked. Autoexpress has details of the security ratings for all cars which is based on how easy they are to break in to and how quickly they can be hotwired and driven off. For example the smart has a low rating on the above website (very few about and who would want to nick one!), but in autoexpress it scores just one and two stars for the ease at which it can be broken in to and driven off.
