OK, how's it work??!! - David Horn
Just watching Top Gear and saw the bit with Jeremy extending the range of his remote control by putting it against his head - does it turn the body into an amplifier?

Maybe an aerial.
If it's a competition, I need a telescope to see my bike remote work at max range - two miles at a guess - line of sight.

After seeing this I am going to try using a pringle's can.

I would guess that raising the remote to head height might improve transmission / reception.

I've been using this trick for about 4 years after reading an article on it somewhere. Seems the skeleton acts as an aerial for radio transmission at certain frequencies and those frequencies coincide with those licensed for remote locking systems. The skull is the largest bone by mass in the body and does a fine job of allowing you to unlock your car.

If you ever find your keyfob battery has discharged and won't unlock your car, stand right next to the car and use the "skull trick". In many cases, it will give just enough gain to get you back in your car so you can drive to halfords and get a new set of CR232 or whatever hideously overpriced battery your keyfob takes.

Agree with the body as aerial bit - you can often improve poor radio reception by holding aerial.

You can regularly get a cardfull (10/20/30/40 asstd)of those batteries on eBay for a couple of quid +p&p (wholesale section).

You don't need to hold the remote against your head, just point it into your open mouth whilst facing your car. It works!

You beat me to it, though I must say that it's more difficult to disguise this method, as opposed to a surreptitious scratch of the head, if you're worried about what others think of you!

Using either of the two methods doubles the range of my already good V70 remote when line of site in front or behind the car applies, and increases it by 50% or so when from the side or when the car and I are obstructed from each other by parked cars.

Is all of this not just a wind up to make us look stupid?

But going to try it myself - when it goes dark...
OK, how's it work??!! - Clanger
You shouldn't need to improve the range of your remote in the dark, they work better anyway, not as many photons for the radio waves to bump into.

Why would I want to increase the range of my remote control ?. Increasing the range of my remote control would give theives who steal to order more chance of picking up the remote control frequency/code wouldn't it ?
