Dear all and H.J. H.J. always recommends the manual and says stay away from the auto landcruiser. WHY? I have several colleagues with this vehicle and they all swear by, not at, the auto. Any thoughts please.
Regards.

I have one.
I have no idea why it should be avoided, I think its great. It doesn\'t harm its performance off road; at least not in the type of off-road in the UK. It makes it very easy to drive, I find the changes very smooth and with an engine that size who cares about losing a little bit of power.
One of the good things about the Landcruiser is how easy it is to drive, and the autobox only adds to that.

The manuals aren't terribly nice to drive, as it's hardly a short, slick shift. Manuals are also valued a lot less than autos as well.
In theory manuals last longer, but I'm not sure that's the case either. You also have to factor in a clutch change. My autos done 170K, and apart from the odd hiccup, changes smoothly.
