Does anyone know of good websites that give ideas on how to keep kids amused/challenged on long journeys?

quote "Fill the backseat up with pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, and every other soft thing you are taking with you. The resulting pile becomes a special bed where the kids can curl up and doze off. Definitely more comfortable than the seats."

Obviously thought of before the seatbelt laws................

Davo,

This suggestion is entirely un-PC and could probably get Social Services twitchy but...

My dear old Dad swore by Phenargan (I think that's how it's spelt). He used to tell us that it was an anti-travel sickness pill and mush it up in some jam. Of course, it's quite a powerful anti-histamine which had me and my brother fast asleep for hours on end!

Cheers

Absolutely right Rob, Phenergan or Piriton and these days they are available in handy syrup form. No more "are we there yet" chants.

You don't say how old they are.We have found the walkman and story tapes (that way the adults don't need to listen) excellent. Harry Potter kept them going from calais to grenoble. A "splitter" from Maplin's allows two kids to listen to one walkman it they prefer. Games such as "who am I" where one player imagines a person and the rest haveto guess who a question at a time ie alive/dead, male/female real/fictional. Regular and well chosen stops, maybe just off route, help. IKEA at Wednesbury is a good alternative to M6 Hilton Park services. East Midlands Airport (if it still has a cafe overlooking the airside) alterntive to Trowell or Donnington from the M1.

Sorry, mine now 8 & 10. Walkman's used from 3/4 onwards - Harry Potter came later.
