my mate suggest my front wheels need tracking,
what other causes is there and how much tracking usually cost?
|
I would suggest the wheels need balancing.
Either that or its the cobblestones as you go past a school entrance.

it's while im driving on the moterway,
i thought all wheels are already balanced? hmm you could be right i did have change my driver side wheel and happened after.
is there a average price list to look at, for these basic thing like wheel balancing etc?

It's merely a cunning device to remind you of the speed limit!

Does the car judder when braking? If so, it's more than likely scored or worn brake discs.
Failing that, it could be any number of things, but start with the tracking and the discs.

the car don't judder from braking, but braking harder than usual at high speed does shake the steering wheel.

I had that problem once. It turned out to be a retread tyre which had gone out of round! Replaced the tyre and no more problems. Retreads are not a good economy.

Trevor will be along in a minute to tell you that you shouldn't be going that fast, anyway...

Try HiQ tyres, my local branch will balance wheels for free, then if its not cured go see a good local garage, in my experience they will be fine when the balancing is done, even if the tyres probably Goodyear are wearing egg shape.

Try what the other replies have said, but if the rear wheels are out of balance, they too can cause the steering to shake. I'm speaking from past experience & was suprised at the fault!

Some motorway road surfaces, especially in France can cause steering wheel vibration at speed.

Hmmm, I was going to move this across to Tech Matters, but looking at some of the answers, perhaps not!
