I too really like the C6, and I was also aware that there are very few on Autotrader these days. Fabulous cars though.

I also like the Renault Vel Satis, and I think the last time I looked, there were none on Autotrader!.

It's the aura of unreliability that surrounds French cars in general. However there are many examples round here that goes against that, two Berlingos from 2004 for a start and just looking around when you are out and about there are loads about. I've only had one French car...Simca years ago and it was ok.

You need to have a good independent specialist to keep these in top condition, they are complex cars with no less than seven spheres that need a regas now and again. Great when all is working but one in need of work is a very quick way to empty your wallet. I can see the appeal but too large for me.

An understanding of Citroen hydraulics, a decent toolkit plus a Lexia interface & laptop with Diagbox on would be very useful for someone determined to keep a C6 on the road.

I guess it would be helpful to live near a classic Citroen specialist well versed in the hydraulic systems. There are a few in the country, but I don't think there are any near me!.

Love old Citroens though, the weirder the better. The Ami 6 springs to mind, but I've also long admired the SM.

Has there been a recent concerted effort to establish Citroen C6's as modern classics?

I have quite fancied one of these for ages but never got round to it. Usually they are about 6-8 on autotrader but atm there are only 2 at around £ 3-4000.

Maybe it's just the Covid general car price rise but they do seem to be creeping up. I've seen some at £10k plus recently seems very optimistic.

The £565 tax would put me off.

ATM there are 9 on Ebay with prices ranging from £3795 to £9995.

Because of this thread, I have been looking at pictures and video's of the C6, and the Renault Vel Satis which I mentioned earlier. Have to say, while I prefer the exterior looks of the C6, IMO the Vel Satis has a much nicer interior design. By comparison, the C6's interior seems a bit dull.

We should be grateful for these French companies who have often gone against convention and been different, for no other reason than to be different. I don't think we will see the like of it again as I'm sure none of these cars were commercially successful.

100% agree, it is so sad that companies who do try and do something a bit different don't reap the rewards for trying to push the envelope. Instead, folk just go for the default choices like sheep.

Last year, for a period of about 6 months, in a street I work, there were 4 identical VW Tiguan's (and I'm not talking about a long street with these cars spread out, it was the cul de sac at the end, so all close together). Same colour (white), same spec (R Line diesel), I just thought it absolutely tragic!.

I would rather an Avantime than a Vel Satis. The latter always looked a bit like an upturned pram to me.

Yes, I'm well aware that the appearance of the Vel Satis is an acquired taste (though I guess you could say the same of the Avantime), but while, as I said, I prefer the exterior of the C6, I don't mind the big Renault.

Also love the Avantime though, and was absolutely incensed on that episode of Top Gear where they were given one to make faster round a track!. The idea was interesting, but surely they could have chosen a car which wasn't extremely rare to 'ruin'?

You are right, that is very sad. Quite a few others on that list too, like the original Twingo. I'd love one of them, regardless of being LHD only!.

I do remember reading about perfectly serviceable classic cars being scrapped at the time, even cars which were 'accepted' classics like MGB's and Morris Minor's. And if memory serves, they did have to be scrapped because of the way the scheme worked, they couldn't be saved.
