I've just been browsing through a 1906 farming encyclopaedia (British, not Peruvian), and it shows a similar but purpose-made tool for DIY operations on sheep.

I used to live in Lima, I wouldn't do it again. Although South American healthcare is typically better than the UK, although you have to pay of course. Its just that the weather in Lima is lousy.

Mind you, if you look at it the other way the guy was dying and survived.

I used to live in Lima
I've been there a few times - ISTR that the firewater sold in bottles cured everything except hangovers (caused them!)
