RAC or Elephant.co.uk sites will conform whether the car still exists.

First goto the AA website and enter the Car's reg numb to see if it's still on the database. If so, then try writing to the DVLA at Swansea (address on their website) Providing you have a v.good reason, they *should* supply you with the info.

The URL Dave is thinking of is www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/cardatacheck/startcheck...p
However, this database doesn't show whether the car still exists, only what car the registration is allocated to.
Scrapped cars aren't removed from the database for the very good reason that if you were considering buying a car, you'd want to know that it had been scrapped at some point. Simply deleting the car from the database would leave open the possibility that it had simply been left out in error.
A full HPI/AA check on the car might reveal the current and former owners, but would cost you money. Otherwise, you can try writing to the DVLA.

I don't quite understand why you want it back. Was a stash of expensive narcotics left inside the door panels? Is a stolen Rembrandt self portrait welded beneath a hidden panel in the boot?

Don't forget there are other cars that do exactly what a MK1 sierra does, are as likeable and produce less blue smoke

Works well that link!
Tried a couple of my old cars - then even tried a car my dad had in 1976 - and that worked too!
