'96 vectra 1.8 16v GLS "Creeking" - Dave K
Hi all, hope someone can help ?

I have a 96 vectra 70,000 miles, and for some reason the Rear off the car seems to be "Creeking", i could be at the lights or on the move but it creeks (sounds)like a wooden door.

I know its the rear because when i push the rear down on the bumper, it makes the creeking sound then for a second or two.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks alot :)

I think the creaking you hear when you push the rear down by it\'s bumper is a red herring, because it is common for Vauxhall\'s to creak when the handbrake is applied and the suspension bounced. What you\'re hearing then is the handbrake mechanism and cables moving around under the car.
I suspect it\'s something else like the parcel shelf - if it\'s a hatchback, you could try eliminating this by removing it and see if it still does it.
Have a look to see if the spare wheel is bolted tightly to the boot floor, and also check that the rear seats are located correctly on their mountings.

The rear anti roll & suspension bushes do not last for ever on these cars, I needed mine replaced at 5years (90K miles) 1 set is dirt cheap other set is ~£30, can't remember which is which. At the same time I got the handbrake stripped, inspected and tightend (no new parts required) so I cannot comment on what solved my squeak!
