The answer for the Discovery Sport EGR fault overlooks the systemic exhaust design fault that led JLR to warn its sales staff not to sell this particular car (Evoque and E-Pace as well) until the customer's needs had been fully qualified. JLR knew this would happen, so it's not fair to blame the owner in any case of this type. If it had been a Jaguar XE the fault would have been significantly less likely to occur, so with these cars adjudication must always find in favour of the driver. To demonstrate this fact, the law firm below currently enjoys a 100% success rate in achieving just outcomes for such owners in ombudsman hearings

Cross Border Trade

"You are correct that the transaction took place in Scotland and the limit for Small Claims in the Sheriff's Court is £5,000, not the £10,000 it is in the UK."

We haven't gone - yet!

"Cross border trade

My partner purchased an Audi A1 from a guy who advertised it on eBay (the listing had ended, so it was not bought through eBay)."

How did I know this wasnt going to be good news?!

"Within limits"

Please don't keep perpetuating the myth that you will be done in France for being 1km/h over the limit. There's a tolerance allowed of 5km/h below 100km/h, so if you get a ticket for 1km/h over the limit you would have been clocked at 6km/h over the limit, and your speedo would have shown more than that. Given that warning signs for speed cameras are obligatory, it's quite simple not to get done. And if you're breaking the law of another country, why should you not be done?

I'm a resident of France, and no fan of speed cameras. But they're part of life and you have to work around them...

Karoq Tyres - no, the correct size is 215/ 55/17 for std SE spec. The OP says his cars comes with many extra, one which could be an alloy wheel upgrade. VAG used a weird size for their 18" alloys - 215/50/18 for which Michelin did not make a tyre for. I asked Michelin about it and they said they had no plans on making this size available. About two weeks later I saw an online tyre website advertising them in this size, so they're available now! Warning - because it's not a popular size, the tyres are very expensive. If the upgrade is 19" alloys (225/40/19 or 225/45/19 on 4x4 models) then to the best of my knowledge nobody makes allseason tyres. I think HJ's advice is correct - little point on a 40 section tyre! Hope that helps.

Buying privately: I'm reading this with disbelief.

A private seller states their car has full service history and then after purchase, the buyer contacts Audi and discovers it does not have a full service history. Question - why did buyer not contact Audi to confirm service history BEFORE purchasing the car?

We can come up with as many buyer protection laws as possible, but no law is going to protect a buyer who's that stupid.

It's not an unknown ruse to ensure the sale is outside eBay, which despite it's faults, does provide some buyer protection. A friend of the seller or the seller under a different account out-bids the buyer. The seller then contacts the buyer telling them the winner (in reality a fraud) has dropped out, do they still want the car (or whatever). It's against eBay rules, but it happens.

Re Shocking News:

My Golf VI (Oct 2011), 78,000 miles, misting of front shock absorbers. October 2018, first change of shock absorbers and front brake pads, rear suspension link, total £370 inc VAT and all parts, 3 hours labour at £40/hour plus VAT.

Had this gone to the main Dealer, the labour rates may have been £100/hour plus VAT, or more.

It's worth looking at HJ's MOT link, where you can check other similar cars to your own model and see what their MOT results, failures etc show up. My car is ex SixT, so by checking car reg's with the last letter from A-Z, I can see about 15 other Golf's all registered around the same time and see their issues of which suspension misting is regular.

I had my front spring coil tashed on a road hump in 2016, got the car to the Main Dealer and was similarly treated to a £600 bill of which £300 was labour, both springs done at 60,000 miles. The Dealer was a mile away and I wasn't driving far on a broken coil, whereas the misting issue was a non urgent problem and I could travel to my normal garage.

Re : "Sky, high", There is a reason those things are rare, as far as I can see RR no longer sell them.
