How to get Car Details online? - bery_451

Hi,

Is there a website that requires no registration where you input the car number plate number to get details on screen like?:

- Engine size and type and power

- Trim

- Spec

- Previous owners

What it is im selling a family friend car on my gumtree account as the friend doesn't know how to use a computer, call her old fashioned if you want. I already do have the other details such as mileage, mot, latest photos etc. My friend lives all the way up north while I am in the midlands hence I dont have the logbook or anything.

Thanks,

Given you have already taken the step of posting on here, you could always just tell us what the car is and ask us.

Otherwise, there is this place, www.celtictuning.co.uk/, it is a remap specialist, but if you put in the reg of the car, it will tell you how much power the car has as standard so you can compare it with what it will have after. Not that i'm suggesting doing so is a good idea, but it will answer your question.

I'd avoid that website. It states my car is a diesel.

The gov.uk tax and MOT sites can give you a fair bit of information with the reg number. Similarly with some of the oil sites, such as: www.commaoil.com/

I don't think you'll have any luck with previous owners, as that's not even shown on new V5s, unless you have the (very) old V5.

I'd avoid that website. It states my car is a diesel.

For my car it gets the wrong BHP and so the increase it says it can give is actually 5BHP less than what it is now!

Get you friend to send you photos of the logbook. They were able to send you photos of the car.

The logbook is not going to tell you how much power the car has, though presumably you'd be able to find out with the chassis number?. Seems like a bit of a faff, especially as, if you give us the make, model and year, there is a good chance someone on here will be able to tell you. There are some models where it might be tricky to find out, such as various VAG group cars with the TSI engine, but it shouldn't be difficult for most.

As for the Celtic tuning website, it isn't a bible as such, and i never claimed it was, but failing any other suggestions, it should provide reasonably accurate info for most cars. And TBH, for those who say it states the wrong power output, are you sure about that?, have you had the car on a rolling road?. As far as i am aware, that place uses rolling roads to determine what the car makes as standard, and to find out what it makes post remap.

Yes it does.

V5C, page 2 column 1.

Half way down P,2 Max. net power (kW).

A quick google will convert to bhp. (or for an approx figure multiply by 110 and divide by 81)

I'd rather trust Hyundai and the figures they give than some random figures on a website

Hardly random. Just out of curiousity i just looked up a dozen cars which i knew the power output, they were all correct, and that included our old Hyundai i30 diesel auto.

As for the power output being on the logbook?, fair enough skidpan, i wasn't aware that it was listed!.

This link takes you to an extremely detailed catalogue, searchable by make/model/year for all cars made since the late 1940s.

Everything you would want to know about a car (if it is in the list)

Not really sure what your point is. The OP asked for a website where the reg number of a car could be entered and you'd get details of its engine size and power output, the link i posted does so. No, it may not list every car on sale current or past, and the info may not be 100% accurate for every car listed, but for the most part it is. So if it answers the question the OP asked, how can it be random?. As for your not having heard of the company, that is neither here nor there.

It's a random site for getting info for a car rather than using the info direct from the manufacturer who will have a better idea of the stats of their own cars rather than a tuning company.
