If you drive a car owned by another person on your 'any car insurance' does the car have to be insured in its own right?
OK If you park and leave it there maybe an issue.
Is driving another persons untaxed car to a prearrranged MoT acceptable?

I believe that the 'other' vehicle must be insured in its own right, and that this applies to your MoT query also.

I had the exact same question last week.
The car you are driving needs to be insured on its own policy.
I rang my insurer (Direct Line) and they added the car onto my own policy for a nominal sum. This meant that I had two cars on one insurance for a weekend.
Don't risk it. It will be the one time plod takes a liking to your driving style...

The car DOES NOT need to be insured under its own policy. This is a common misconception.
I have a number of friends that work for large insurance companies and they have all confirmed that the car does not need its own policy.
Obviously you only have third party cover whilst driving the vehicle, and it is not covered for theft/accidental damage.

Also should note that the car may not be owned by you, if it is then you should add it to your existing policy.
