F.A.O SLO - badbusdriver

Browsing classic cars on Ebay i came upon this listing for a Renault Safrane, thought you might want a look SLO.

Have to say, very impressive looking machine, obviously very top of the range with what appears to be electric REAR seats!. Also impressed by what looks to be a seperate rear window behind the seats to stop passengers getting cold/draught when the tailgate is opened. Looks a real peach, i wonder what it will sell for?, probably not as much as the seller would like, being a bit left field!,

I did have a soft spot for these big armchairs on wheels. Quite rare even back in their day but I did sell a few of them, almost bought a 2.2 RT in white I took as a part-ex because I liked it that much. Pick was the late 2.5 5cyl Volvo engined models with all the toys but the V6 Renault motor was ok. Glad this isn’t anywhere near me or I’d be going for a look.

Interesting, I didn't know Renault dropped the Volvo lumps into the Safrane.

I wish they’d fit seats like that nowadays, I once nearly bought a WJ grand Cherokee purely on the seats! The GCs that followed are no match.

I had a much-loved Safrane in the 1990s and did 120,000 trouble-free miles in it in 4 years: Renaults werre fine in the 80s and 90s. It was a 2.2 RT in white just like the one you looked at, SLO.

Fortubatrly it was a company car as the depreciation on these was horrendous, even without the high mileage. Big cars without a prestige badge have never sold very well since the German makes effectively superseded the likes of the Ford Granada. But what really killed the Safrane was Renault's own Laguna: I had a Laguna V6 after the Safrane and there was almost as much room for people and luggage.

There is also this Renault 25 2.2 auto on Ebay (post faceleift sadly Trilogy, but just how many nice looking cars have been spoiled by their facelift?!)

Anyone know what the switch marked 'EXC' next to the gear selector means/is for?.

That's an exceptional car, if i was Renault head office i'd be trying to buy that back via the auction.

All this Renault talk reminds me of the best riding car I have owned. A 21 GTS Savanna. The long wheelbase, soft suspension and seats were the reason, and also why it didn't go round corners too well. Fantastic estate car though.
