Autodrop sales - starboater

Someone is trying to sell me a car via this outfit (basically a third party that arranges everything and holds the seller's cash in escrow until the buyer is satisfied.)

It sounds v dodgy though has some favourable comments on t'internet.

The big down-side is that the buyer doesn't actually view the car, just relies on the description and can ask for their money back if unhappy.

They're not based in Nigeria though!

Simple question, why?

What's so difficult about going and looking at a car, and buying it if you can strike a deal with the owner/sales bod, why even contemplate putting your head in the shark's mouth.

Never heard of them personally, one wonders if they might feature in due course on an investigative reporter's slot.

No matter the terms and conditions, never ever buy a used car unseen. You may find yourself having to jump over hurdles to get your money back and what if this unknown firm fails in the meantime while holding your money?

as above....NEVER buy a used car sight unseen...if they ain't based in Nigeria...perhaps they ought to be.!!

Depends what you are buying.

Run of the mill car where there are thousands around, why make it difficult by using such a system?

One off vehicle worth millions currently in the US which has lots of provenance as to authenticity probably not unusual to use a third party,

Well I certainly wasn't persuaded - I was interested to know if anyone had heard of the outfit as it does have a reasonable web presence. I suspect its origins are in the USA though th UK arm has an address.

Definitely not for me though!

The website is littered with spellings from across the Pond, but what would worry me is that the telephone number is not a Throckley landline number and I cannot find a trace of them at Companies House, despite a statement referring to their Registered Address and the Postcode thereof!

This sounds very dodgy to me, asking for a lot of grief if the car is not to your liking. Bought one unseen to be fair from a main dealers but we had an agreement that if I didn't like it the deal was off, as it happened it was as described except for a small dent in the wing which their body shop sorted.

Since the photos they use are grabbed off the web, I would have strong doubts about their legitimacy.
