Ford Focus 2012 - Ford Focus Powershift Automatic Shudder/Shaking - SP992

Hi new to this so sorry if this issue has been mentioned before.

I recently bought a second hand Ford Focus Powershift 2012 model from a private seller on Autotrader about a month ago.

Ive started to notice a shuddering when pulling off and whilst changing to second. I understand this is a known problem and Ford extended the warranty on the models effected from the usual 3 years to 5 in the UK. Wheras US and AUS got a 10 year extended warranty

With my extended warranty running out last year i'm guessing I will just have to take this on the chin and pay for the repairs? Does anyone have a similar situation and how have they got on?

Ideal situation would for me to worm my way out of a £500+ bill

It’s very common on these as you already know but even if your car was a year younger it would need to have a full Ford main dealer service history to be able to claim on that warranty extension. It’s likely the last owner noticed this fault beginning and sought to sell it on but you can’t prove that or expect any recompense. I’d suggest punting it to auction or to webuyanycar where it should fetch reasonable money if in good order with a sensible mileage and as long as there’s no warning lights on.

You bought it privately so I assume it was quite cheap and thus your losses should be far less than the cost of getting a main dealer or gearbox specialist to sort this. It’s a bad gearbox, a poor design that Ford have now given up on after massively costly warranty claims and legal battles particularly in the states.

Next time stick with a manual or go for something with a conventional torque converter autobox or CVT such as the Honda Civic or Toyota Auris.

I have a similar problem on a 2012 model. Its had clutch seals replaced initially which solved nothing, then identical parts replaced, obviously this didn't last long and then new parts which were apparently modified. All this within the 5yr warranty period. A fairly short time after the warranty ran out the same shudder has started. Ford dealer has confirmed its the same problem. Ford UK seem uninterested and take a view there is no warranty on warranty work which is appalling attitude to take. Currently dealer is trying to speak to Ford on my behalf to see if we can get a compromise arrangement. I doubt it will happen. Any idea what the cost would be to fix it?
