Recently my saxo was broken into for the second time. Considerable damage has been done to the passenger door lock and surrounding bodywork (see pictures):

How much do you think I will be looking at to get this fixed? As am wanting to trade the car in next month.
It will need either a new lock, or possibly removing and filling/spraying over.
Thanks!

That looks like a new door skin needed to me.

Guestimate would be....
Lock assembly £50?
Repair damaged area & respray door/blend to match £150
Paint & materials £50
Vat £44
Total £294
Assuming you don't re-skin the door, if you did, add another £200 ish
Shop around!

Thanks for the replies :)
I just stopped at a local garage on the way home and they have quoted £200 to remove the lock, place a steel backing plate behind the hole, fill and spray.
Or might I be better off getting a lock from a scrappy if I can find one? (I doubt anyone will care if the key doesnt work, seeing as it has remote locking).

Don't buy a lock without keys & expect your remote locking to never let you down!

The dealers can make a lock work with your old key if i remember correctly.....
Fortunatly my Saxo got away with paint, filler and a new lock barrel, £170 + vat 2 and a bit years ago.

Had *exactly* the same type of damage done to my old non-metallic Fiesta. i ended up paying £100 for a perfect repair of the damaged area. No new skin required and you really couldn't tell, even if you knew that it had been damaged.
However, I didn't need a new lock as it still worked (just). Try a smaller bodyshop, one who will quote on a repair job. Many said they couldn;t repair either mine or my dad's BMW.
TBR (Tanfield Body Repairs) in Team Valley Gateshead did both of 'em and the repair standard was excellent, even on the BM.

HI, you don't say how you're gonna pay for the damage to be repaired, but ask the bodyshop how much they'll do the repair for cash. Generally there are two prices at bodyshops, one for an insurance repair, and another for a cash repair. The latter will be cheaper.
|
I'll be paying cash as my insurance excess is £300 and I dont want to lose my no claims bonus. The £200 I was quoted was for a cash sale - I'm located in Leeds and all garages seem to be quite expensive :(
Anyone in the area recommend somewhere? I've booked it in for next thursday but I'm still looking out for somewhere more reasonably priced.
|
For teh damage that you've got £200 isn;t too bad providing that they're gonna fix the lock as well with a proper one, with matching key etc.
Our BM cost over £160, but we had a rear door handle with no lock fitted as we never use the passenger locks anyway, they're just a liability.
Have you considered having it de-locked instead? Even if it was just on that one side it may be cheaper than putting in an unnecessary lock. I'm assuming it has remote locks by the way...

That £200 is to have the door de-locked, as a replacement lock would mean having a different key (so I have been told by a number of sources).
I've got remote locking as you say, and I dont think I have ever used the key in the passenger door in the 3.5yrs I've had the car.
What is annoying is that this break in happened just as I was about to put the car in autotrader.

Just noticed a little bodyshop on my way home from work, so got a quote for £130! Much more reasonable..
Booked in for tomorrow so I'll let you all know how it goes.
Also want to say thanks for your replies :)

Well they did a pretty good job. Not great - but after giving the car a good wash and wax I was offered a really good trade in against my new car which I'll be collecting on thursday.
I'll soon be the owner of a Silver Focus 2.0 ESP :)
