Noisy Rover 200 central locking - Mike200
My central locking is making a chattery noise when activated, de-activted. I thought it was just the passenger door solenoid chattering, but now it seems all the locks are doing it (2 doors, boot). could it be a control unit problem. Any advice would be helpful. Cheers

The most likely cause is a faulty unit on the drivers door. This controls the actions of the other locks and if it plays up, the others (like sheep) follow suit and mimic it. You could unplug the passengers door lock, apply a live feed to one lead and a negative to the other. This will make the central door lock work one way. Swap the leads round and the lock will operate the opposite way. From this you can deduce if the motor is ok.
hope this helps.

Agree with Robin, but in addition check that none of the linkages are stiff to operate (especially sill button) - this can prevent the switches in the door unit from being triped properly and the electronics then gets confused.
