My car is 2.5 year old and within a few hundred miles of hitting 60k and thus out of warranty. So far I have had it serviced each time at the same main dealer and have had no issues.

Following advice here, I got an oil and filter change by a mate about 6k miles after the last service and plan to do that between service intervals from now on.

My hope is to keep the car for another 3 to 4 years and at current mileage, that will likely be into 150k miles territory.

My question is whether there is any advantage to keeping with the main dealer or move to a well rated local garage who specialises in Ford and charges labour at about half the price of the main dealer?

Will the Ford main dealer stamp be worth anything on a car that has 150k miles when I come to sell it?

Any thoughts?

Make specialist indy every time (skill care value repeat custom), arguably if well known for the marque a make specialist history can be worth more at sale time than main dealer, though that might apply more to other maybe more Germanic makes, and on a 7 year old 150k mainstream car won't make a scrap of difference.

Those interim oil changes i'd be inclined to trust to the indy too so you a have a nice sheaf of receipts to wave at a sensible private buyer when the time comes to sell, they won't make any difference as a trade in but evidenced well looked after cars are sought after by private buyers who realise cars like this arn't going to be the cheapest and are prepared to pay sensibly more for one worth finding, neglected cars are ten a penny @ 150k.

You'll enjoy a nice easy reasonably priced private sale when the time comes i think doing things as you intend.

Thanks very much for the comprehensive response - makes a lot of good points.

I'll keep receipts for all parts fitted and hopefully have both a reliable car into the future and one that will have a value for someone else when I come to say good bye.
