2005 Skoda Superb Elegance 2.5 TDI V6 - 2005 Skoda Superb Elegance 2.5 TDI V6 - Saf Ali
Hi. I'm looking at purchasing 04/05 Skoda Superb Elegance 2.5 TDI V6. I really like it as I've seen it in a local garage. I don't know much about cars, especially Skodas. I've read mixed views about this engine and car etc. I'm so confused. It's got full service history, I believe and an Auto gearbox. It's done 115k miles. A mechanic mentioned if the double cam let had been done. I don't have a clue what that is and the guy from the garage doesn't know if it's been done as there's no receipts. Also, it's had some electric issues that has led to it losing power. The garage is repairing that as apparently it's not a major issue.

Please advise me this vehicle. Should I go for it or not? Are they good cars/engines? If I do, then what should I make sure of or watch out for?

Thanks

Full service history with no mention of belt change, some full history that, how do they know it's had electrical issues yet they don't know if it's had the cambelts changed but they do know the electrical issues are not major.

Does the FSH mention an autobox oil change, somehow i doubt it.

I'd be out the door sharpish to be honest unless its so cheap (circa £1000 tops) that it's worth the risk.

The 2.5 tdi engine was great Cambelt, waterpump, etc all need changing at least evry 70k miles. If there is no ABSOLUTE proof that it has been done, then it needs to be done. Horribly awkward job, and it will cost about £500, maybe even more - the entire front of the car needs dismantling, basically.

The gearbox was (I think) a multitronic box, and prone to problems. Expensive ones.

Electrical problems ? Who knows. Are they really likely to spend lots of money fixing a problem with an 11 year old car ? What do you think the answer is ?

I have a 2005 Skoda Superb Elegance 1.9TDi PD130. FSH and it is on it's third cambelt and water pump etc. Apart from a repair to the manual gearbox by a specialist everything else is original. Clutch, exhaust etc etc. It has well over 200K miles and I expect at least another year from it as I have just fitted a tow bar for caravaning. I would be happy to sell it then on the basis of what you see is what you get, but the price will reflect that.

From what you say and what your garage says I would be inclined to walk away from this. There are literally thousands of cars out there for decent money so don't buy one that potentially has big problems.

Don't buy it.

Cheers Concrete

The 2.5 V6 engine is a lemon. It has an unreliable and expensive fuel pump known as a Bosch VP44. Google VP44 failures and pour yourself a beer.

The auto box is a further disaster with the reverse clutch drum breaking up around the circlip groove. This gives reverse gear failure followed by a gearbox full of swarf.

Finally, any water ingress is death and long term unreliability to the electrics when "repaired". Corroded connectors cannot be economically repaired.

Walk away and buy a car like Concrete has - if you can find one.
