I checked the top mounts for wear by taking hold of the struts and giving them a good push and pull. I noticed that there was a bit of movement on the securing cap on top of the suspension tower under the bonnet.

Should there be any movement at all or is a tiny amount acceptable?

I also checked buy pushing down on the front suspension. Again there was a slight gap approx 3-5mm when I pushed down. Being quite hard to depress the front suspension with body weight, I wondered what sort of gap would happen if I went over a bump in the road.
