Oh Gawd! Don't get me going on conspiracy theories again! I have no doubt that the story is true and it makes grim reading. Then again, truck and coach drivers have a gadget in the cab that records their speed and have had for years.
Having said that, I for one, would strongly resist any attempt to install a device in my car that can tell where I've been, when I've been and (very probably) who I've been doing it with.
On a related note, in today's Daily Mail there's a feature in the Travel section on touring in the US. The writer says that several hire companies have in their fleet cars that are fitted with GPS equipment which can not only tell where you are, but also what speed you are doing. Buried in the small print is a clause that allows the hire company to 'fine' you if their GPS equipment shows that you have broken a speed limit despite the fact that you may not have been caught by the police. Outrageous or what?

Surely it's a good idea if it is used in crash investigations, but the worrying implication is, I think for most people, the big brother aspect coming into playing seeing where you've been going and what speed you've been doing.
To my mind, that's no one's business.

I can't believe that this is true. Firstly it counds unlikely and second its identical to a hoax e-mail which was floating around 2 years ago or so.
April 1st come early, I should think.

Looks like a hoax to me. I think even a fairly rough journalist would know how to spell 'retrieving' (i before e except after c), when to use '5' and when to use 'five' and the difference between 'braking' and 'breaking'.
