Help with choosing a Coupé - The real Wozza!
I'm looking for some help . . .
I'm thinking of getting rid of my MINI Cooper S, but I'm not sure of what to get next.

I've got £5,000 to spend.

At the moment I'm caught between:

• Mercedes C220 CDI,
• Mercedes CLK 270 CDI,
• Mercedes C180 Kompressor,
• Audi TT 180/225,
• Alfa GT,
• Toyota Celica 1.8 VVT-i,
• BMW 320 CD,
• BMW 320 Ci,
• Volvo C30 R-Design,
• Mazda MX5 1.8i,

Any help with positives and negatives would be appreciated. Thanks.

All nice cars (apart from the Alfa), but if you choose one of the Germans, at your budget you're likely to get an elderly one which may need expensive repairs before long.

Personally I'd always have a convertible in preference to a fixed-head coupe, so it would be the MX-5 for me. But the Celica will be just as good if you don't want an open top. Volvo also a possibility although I believe the ride is hard.

Predictably perhaps, I'd say Mercedes, and out of the three you mention the CLK 270 would be my choice.

The C Class coupe (more of an ugly hatch) was not highly regarded.

Of course, you can get the CLK with the 2.1 diesel engine (CLK 220CDi) or the 1.8 Kompressor (CLK 200k) and these can be coupe or convertible. The premium feel and quality is unsurpassed at the price.

HOWEVER, make sure you have a good independent MB specialist nearby who will undertake servicing and any repairs. These are not cheap vehicles to run. Couple of nice examples I found:

I used to have an MX5 and you can't have more fun, even the 1.8 is brisk enough. Your budget will easily get you in to a Mk3. But it's not a Merc!

The two links appear to be identical.

If you remove everything from (and including) the question mark it does take you to a CLK advert.
