BMW X5 40D - Dashboard rattle - Slowensteddy

I need help/advice regarding dashboard rattle on this otherwise superb car. Had it 4 years from new. Now 35K miles. Out of warranty. Full SH. Diesel engine and gearbox extremely strong. Dashboard will rattle/buzz due to engine vibration around 1200 rpm. Not loud but very annoying. I can stop it by pressing on the central vents with my hand. My view is that it is the central vents 'housing' rattling where it inserted into the rest of the facia. Possibly some felt tape or some such might fix it. Advice needed as to what to do. 1. Take to BMW dealer and ask them to have a look and see what they can do? 2. Take to independent BMW specialist to have look? 3. Put up with it as it not a big issue and accept it as just one of those things that will happen in a stiffly sprung 4 year old SUV?

The biggest problem when taking any dashboard fittings out,is they are usually made of cheap plastic and once disturbed the plastic retaining clips break. So you could end up with more problems. If you can put up with the noise, leave it alone.

Yes, brittle plastics in the cold are a pita, if you are going to have a go at removing said vents and putting something in to cure this, at least stick a fan heater in the car for a few hours to thoroughly warm the plastics up and make them more pliable.

I would try botching it, without taking it apart.
Felt tape/rubber or suchlike.
