£12 HPi checks? - Mental Mike
I saw something mentioned once about HPi checks (without insurance) being available for £12. I can't find any info about this on their website. Do you have to be a trader or something to get this deal?

Also are there any reputable companies like HPi that do cheaper 'Hpi type' checks, with or without insurance?

My parker's price guide has an ad for www.carwatchuk.com

The ad says 15 quid checks, or 9.99 online.

I have not used them. and have no idea if they are any good, please do not take this as a recommendation, but have a look at the website.

I used carwatch last year - I think it was 9 quid - not sure, everything except the 'finance check' at the time. They said they were trying to include that - don't know if they do yet.

I still don't know how the others justify nearly 40 quid just to tap a number into a keyboard (Possibly their insurance??)

To be able to tap a number into their keyboard implies a computer. This would require a database, which would require a server and maintenance and update. All of which cost money.

Probably supply and demand also applies here - if more people used it, the price would come down.

I remember years ago someone saying that to send a simple business letter cost £15.

Smokie, I realise that. But they're accessing someone else's databases that are set up anyway for other purposes. You can tap your own keyboard and get some of the data, but the useful bits are kept back until you quote your plastic number.

I think more people are using the service, but the price is going up rather than down. However, it looks like some of the information will be apearing on V5's to help the buyer.

Go to

greenflag.co.uk

where you can check 3 cars for £12.50 through an HPi service called 'e check'. They also offer a more advanced report with insurance etc for any car that has been e checked first costing £15.

I think HPI have upped the price a bit lately.

They now do HPI Filter (used to be e-check) where the basic details of up to thre cars can be checked for £19.95. It's a bit hidden on their website.

A more comprehensive report is £39.95 by phone or £35.95 online. You only pay the difference between the full check and filter prices to upgrade one of the three cars to the full check.

Now call me cynical, but it seems to me that a certain poster is doing a bit of advertising on the cheap by quoting a certain website ?

Why else would they reply to 5 seperate posts about HPI checks that are up to 10 years old ?

Ah well, makes a change from knock off kitchens I suppose.

I think they definietly are doing that.

At least now I know who to avoid using. if you have to advertside like this then you are not no good in my eyes
