BMW 530 D 2002 - New Clutch ? - Steveieb

The cluch on my 530 D Has a high take up point at 140K but works fine.

Its been recommended that I consider changing the clutch soon and was quoted £130 plus exhaust parts that may get damaged on removal.

Surely this does not cover a DMF which I presume will need changing too.

Grateful for your experiences.

Can I suggest you ask the garage whether their price includes the DMF change or not, and if not, how much extra ?

However, yes, you would be very wise to get the DMF changed at the same time as the clutch.

As an aside, changing a clutch on one of these is a bit of a swine. If I was getting it done, I'd probably get the clutch release bearing done at the same time - at it very carefully checked out, and replaced if needed. Minimal extra labour needed on it.

I doubt if that price would cover labour. That seems about the rate for a clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing for your car.

I'd question very carefully whoever gave you that price.

Must admit it does seem very cheap. Either the techician is working for nothing or the parts are nicked.

Rear wheel drive cars always used to be quite easy to change the clutch on but never done one on a BMW. I would certaianly expect it to be cheaper than a front wheel drive car.

£130? sounds like parts price only. what about labour?

Wait until it starts to slip then change it. It could last a long time yet!
