Hi All

Is my car affected by the emissions debacle, its a MY 2.0 tdi cvt i think its a EU5 but what does it really mean to me if its affected ?

What are the options for Audi to fix it.

Thanks

What are the options for Audi to fix it.

Why ? Is it broken ?

Basically, information is still being discovered. Your car MIGHT - or MIGHT NOT - be affected by all this. At present that is not certain.

However, a lot of this chaos relates to the USA, where NOx is part of the emissions testing. That does not apply to Europe.

So even if your engine is one of those where the 'cheat software' was fitted, there may well be absolutely nothing that needs to be done.

If the car does not have an AdBlue tank its 100% unaffected.

If it does have an AdBlue tank RobJP's answer is spot on.

I thought the Adblue versions were EU6 none Adblue was EU5

Mine does not have Adblue tank

Therefore since the scandal is about cars where the software has been modified to only inject AdBlue on a test cycle how can your be affected if there is no AdBlue tank.

because i didnt know scandal is about cars where the software has been modified to only inject AdBlue on a test cycle i thought it was for EU5 not EU6 versions anyway its in for a service in 2 weeks i will ask them to get a answer.

My questions are: what sort of car will it be after the refit? Will it be a non-polluting weakling or just have the clever 'cheat' bit removed and continue to perform and pollute as before? (unless stationary on an icy slope with the front wheels spinning!). If the former, can you refuse to have it recalled or will the recall be compulsory?

And is this the first ever recall for a clever rather than incompetent piece of engineering?

Here is the latest from Reuters.

Volkswagen did not say how the planned refit would make cars with the "cheat" software comply with regulations, or how this might affect vehicles' mileage or efficiency, which are important considerations for customers. It said it would submit the details to Germany's KBA watchdog next month.

'Volkswagen did not say how the planned refit would make cars with the "cheat" software comply with regulations, or how this might affect vehicles' mileage or efficiency, which are important considerations for customers.'

I assumed, when this scandal broke, that (as John F implies) the whole point was that the crafty software meant that the test results showed a compliant, low-pollution vehicle, while the driver's experience was of an economical car with good performance - the two being incompatible in the real world.

If that is correct and VW updates the software so that low levels of pollution are achieved all the time, while their cars are dogs to drive, there will be a lot of unhappy VW customers.

Very well put, John and FP - exactly my own feelings. You don't get owt for nowt, and I can understand, without condoning it, why the 'crafty software' was devised. When you see a diesel car accelerating strongly, it's difficult to believe that the ensuing cloud of black smoke is harmless to the atmosphere.

The future is - at least for now until science moves on - with efficicient, torquey petrol engines like the VW Group's own 1.4 and 2.0 TSI: hopefully also an increase in the popularity of hybrids which may bring the price down.

Excellent points by John F and FP. It's bad enough that VAG has been caught cheating to deliver the performance that owners expect, while supposedly passing emissions tests.

As pointed out, VAG obviously cheated because they couldn't make the engines meet emissions regs while delivering the expected performance.

But the backlash will get even worse if the cars' performance is hobbled by the 'updates.'

I know I certainly wouldn't be happy if my car was neutered to meet emissions regs that it should've been meeting in the first place.

If VAG can't get the cars' driveability up to the way it was before the updates, they really will be opening themselves up to a flood of cars being rejected by owners.

Just confirm that since Euro 4 (2005) NOx has been part of the EU standard. We are now on Euro 6 and NOx is 0.08.

I suspect that VW in the UK will just reduce the engines performance and the cumstomers will be left short changed, buts let give them a chance.

In the USA if they reduce performance they will surely face a Class Act lawsuit and then the shareprice will drop further.
