It does happen to me - it's to do with the size of your web cache. Your browser is accessing a copy of the page stored on the hard drive. If it bothers you, press F5 or the refresh button on your browser and you'll see the threads that genuinely are new.
Techies, there is an HTML tag to prevent the page from being stored in cache, either at all or beyond a certain page, but it's been 2 1/2 years since I was coding so I can't remember it any more. (Of course, if you implement this tag, you'll use more bandwidth).

Harry M - If you click on the red word "Discussion" in the bar by the thread title, it should load a new updated copy of the contents page. If you click your browser's "back" button it will show the cached version, which will still have the "new" markers on it. Try emptying your cache. (Although this will have the effect of making all threads appear to have been read[1])
[1] As opposed to red, oh you know what I mean.
