Check the bulbs first - I have known them both fail.

2 fuses on that one,

F20 feeds rear RIGHT and F21 feeds left and center if fitted.

unlikely for both to go but much more probable woukld be a failed brake light switch on the pedal,

simple test,

unplug the connector and short across both wires,

if the light comes on the switch is toast.

but check the bulbs across the battery first,

it's easier ,

and entirely possible one bulb was blown for a long time and you just noticed when the other one went bad.

they don't have to blow at the same time.

Try the brake pedal switch. Not sure where its located on your car, but don't be surprised if its in the passenger footwell like it is on Peugeots.
